rather than biological sex
if thats what they think
@.B please don't confuse things in this conversation, biological sex, as everyone here seems to agree, does exist and is binary. Unless you count more than just humans, then there is like 5.
unfortunately social and psychological sexual characteristics have to many veriables in my opinion to be solid scientificly. some are, because they are influinced by the hormones produced by our brains and also by the different needs birth givers have in society comparied to non-birth giving of the species. however when you throw culture into the mix gender roles become slightly more complicated
i wonder how many of these SJWs don't believe estrogen and testosterone exist
@Grenade123 I don't think I'm confusing it. Medication is gendered, stats we use to make up laws, are gendered. The left is also trying to redefine "woman" and "man".
pretty much all of the time you can tell that women wont be in extremely dangerous or certain death roles in society (ie war) but outside that role the postion of women and men in society become more blured
especially with influince of culture and even then, technology seeks to slowly erode all social roles men and woman have
evolution of war has permited a greater blurring and will contenue to as technology increases
you can deny gender roles and wait for the result of that. Denying gender exists is another thing entirely
that will translate into an effect on psychology and also evolutionary psychology as mating selection will change with it
gender isint sex
people are trying to replace sex with gender because sex is an old word thats harder to fuck with because of its concrete definition
@.B alright, then let me pose this question to you: What is gender?
if you see gender used in science outside of social or political science then its bullshit
@Grenade123 in the west, another word for "sex"
the only thing gender means to me that makes sense is for it to mean social and psychological sexual characteristics
also the classical joke of asking "Sex" can be followed by "yes please", while "gender" is followed by the binary answer
gender is defined by sex and thus not the same thing
gender, even if redifined, cannot be picked randomly
and all of use agreed sex is binary and that is not the definition we are examining. Different group of people have different definitions for words. even the US has its own variations on language. Coke can mean either the cola drink from coka-cola, just be a generic name for cola, or a generic name for soda.
if you suggest scientific and well defined categories, I might be temped to agree
Or the drug, cocaine.
yes, but that stays pretty constant across the US
your point being?
gender's definition was always tied to sex. If we want (let's assume) to redefine it, do it properly at least
otherwise we can just drop "gender" and just use "sex"
Pretty much.
Point being, you are talking about soda and we are talking about a specific soda. This is why i asked you not to confuse the specific definitions we are agreed upon for this discussion. Arch already state that sex is binary and gender =/= sex. Because i was interested in his views, i've been using his definition.
ill be back in a bit, need to eat
my point is simple, if gender != sex, define it in a way that is useful for society
otherwise the use of the word becomes irrelevant
well, that is what i was trying to figure out
we are in sync then
yes. which is what i was saying earlier
what would be the evolution of the word? where do you think this will go?
i was trying to figure out what Arch thought they (the left) referred to since he said he doesn't think gender exists despite saying sex exists.
clearly he must have some concept of it to stay it doesn't exist.
>that will translate into an effect on psychology and also evolutionary psychology
>the only thing gender means to me that makes sense is for it to mean social and psychological sexual characteristics
>>>psychological sexual characteristics
This is not "gender", and I wouldn't call that gender
