Movies can definitely be too short to go into any real depth. I consider their main positive in being how easy they are to watch with other people

Also movies in general have been in a slump lately. If it's not a reboot, a sequel, or a cape film it's not getting much funding

so i don't see a whole lot of that

the only slice of life I've seen is squid girl
