people care about suicide and suffering now out of an almost purely mechanical responce to something as a culture we see as "bad" rather than any actual thought or consern about it
look at the way we react to mass death. the boston massicre sparked a revolution in the 18th century, now you have to kill x20 more people and take out 2 monuments in order to get the united states just to go to war with a pile of sand for profitiering and waste even more of our lives
Does that mean we have less regard for life? Starting a ln armed conflict will result in mass casualties any way you slice it and there is no guarantee you will not wake a sleeping gaint and lose. Perhaps we are more resistance to enemies trying to gloat people into a conflict by using dirty tactics in favor of less violent routes.
i actually think the regard for life in growing in the united state right now because we MIGHT actually resist going to war again in the middle east when its inevitbly put on our table again
politicians might not but we the people might
though its important to note a regard for life isint just about wanting to stay alive, its also about doing something with that life, not being callous to death while also being couragious enough to live in the face of death
Ever heard the saying "A single death is a tragedy; a Million deaths is a statistic"?
with the 24/7 news cycle it applies very much all the time today, we're surrounded by "millions" of deaths on a daily basis, and the human brain isn't adapted to handle and empathize with numbers that large
it doesn't mean we care more or care less about deaths than we used to, just that see more of them now and can't mentally handle it all
"you say a truck load of soldiers is gonna blow up and everyone is fine because it's all part of the plan. But say one little grandmother is gonna die and everyone loses their minds"
@Crow isnt that a quote from Stalin?
It is I recall
And it still rings true
Empathy is harder to achieve when the subject is only a number on paper
Of course he would say something like that. Big brain
I mean, its kinda his place to know that
He was responsible for tens of millions of deaths
So he was probably asked thatquestion
Like i said. Big brain
Hey man, how do you cope.
That sort of shit
Which is also why earlier said, that the value of life seems to deminish the larger a population seems to get
Yeah
I stopped feeling sad after seeing car crashes a few years ago
Pretty fucked up
Also want a good example of this?
Why do people cry at funerals?
Even those of strangers?
Or when a celebrity dies?
Because that individual was more than a number
They have those speeches on what a good person he was.
Or what he achieved, or what he was suffering at the time
Did you just assume this hypothetical persons gender?
Why do people cry at all? Who are they crying for?
The dead don't care.
Bunch for selfish people feeling bad because now they can't request your time anymore to please them since you are dead.
i had the weirdest dream last night about adolf hitler
No hard confirmation on whose quote it is, it's often (mis)attributed to Stalin
so in this dream adolf hitler's soul became trapped within a haunted manor that he could not leave and all the souls of evil people in the world were drawn to the manor and sealed inside photographs of them that line its walls. hitler kills anyone who comes onto his land uninvited and even sometimes invited and for some reason i was a journalist welcome to the manor to write about it but still needed to convence him not to kill me. and for some reason he had cans of cola from the 70s there.
couple of nights ago I dreamt about a spiral of meat and bone, roughly the size of a spiral staircase, growing out of the ground. looking at it directly gave you a headache and if you got too close (10-25 meters or so) it would burn your heart to ash
