The right still functions as a coalition, the left has kind of ruined its utility as a coalition with the "progressive stack" however
i mean, generally i think any society that doesn't close-to-evenly balance conservatism with progressivism will fail
if anyone wants to read it, a great book is The Lost Majority by Sean Trende
talks about the historical trends in party politics and the apparent reason behind the shifts
because if you abandon progressivism you end up staying 1000 years in the past and if you abandon conservatism you end up repurposing the foundations your society is built upon and it collapses
its not an easy read necessarily
Yeah I think ideally there should be a balance of progressivism vs conservatism, so you preserve core values and traditions while at the same time having a mechanism to evolve society based on changing technology and scarcity
But progressivism in the USA has been corrupted, and represents ideas like "every skin color should have collective bargaining rights except for one"
i think it's just that it's been decoupled from conservatism entirely and has absolutely no mind for what we already have, so is willing to abandon important things like racial equality in the name of progress
