For the most part, yes... But there's an awkward teen phase, if you will, to the process... Years of taking the other sexes hormones... There does need to be an identifying process for it... Hence TRANSitioning gender.

most cases I've seen online take less than 6 months. After that they usually choose to do more or not

but the initial "process" is rather fast

Sweety.... in some places It takes a year, itself, for a psychiatrist to "approve" of wether or not they agree that you're trans-enough to warrant hormone replacement.... A year, or more, with hormone replacement and "living as a [sex]" to be approved, both psychologically and medically, for crotch surgery. So you can't honestly sit there and say it's not years....

If gender is a social construct and sex is biological. It would stand that any measures taken to present yourself as the opposite sex would be entailed as part of the gender transitioning process.
