So it's only natural we cut the process short

2020-03-05 16:54:50 UTC

This btw would not only stop aging but as cells start behaving properly again even in already old people would reverse some of the damage

2020-03-05 16:55:13 UTC

No wrinkly skin, brittle bone, weaker muscle strength etc.

2020-03-05 16:56:10 UTC

Of course even this wouldn't make someone immortal. There's certain chemicals the human body doesn't get rid of since they accumulate only in small quantities and ppl usually die before they become an issue

2020-03-05 16:56:36 UTC

They become an issue if you live much longer than people do now

2020-03-05 16:56:59 UTC

And nothing stops people from dying in a car crash or whatever

2020-03-05 16:57:10 UTC

Given enough time anyone will die eventually

2020-03-05 17:01:04 UTC

In the end I firmly believe immortality is a curse and goes against what we are and what made us great. Limited life span requires you to make effort and your time on this plane count. Without "end" there is simply stagnation.
That's just my opinion tho.

2020-03-05 17:01:38 UTC

I actually think shorter lifespans are typical of more savage societies

2020-03-05 17:02:38 UTC

Getting rid of old people in a humane manner would free up all sorts of ressources, allow us to retain some of our greatest minds and keep them working on things not just for decades but possibly centuries

2020-03-05 17:02:49 UTC

It's not true immortality either way

2020-03-05 17:03:17 UTC

Given a thousand years the chances of dying to an accident are actually pretty high

2020-03-05 17:03:49 UTC

The downside with that I guess is that people would become (from our pov) irrationally risk averse

2020-03-05 17:04:01 UTC

What would people do with their lives though

2020-03-05 17:04:12 UTC

Work I guess

2020-03-05 17:04:13 UTC

I assume what they do now

2020-03-05 17:04:17 UTC

Kill themselves

2020-03-05 17:04:20 UTC

Forever

2020-03-05 17:04:32 UTC

The 180 year old Amazon wagie

2020-03-05 17:04:33 UTC

I doubt people would kill themselves out of boredom

2020-03-05 17:04:45 UTC

They are already doing it

2020-03-05 17:05:06 UTC

If people lives longer that would probably make wealth inequality worse

2020-03-05 17:05:15 UTC

There's so much stuff to learn and whatnot that you could pass well more than a millennium just reading stuff

2020-03-05 17:05:36 UTC

@Mr. Nessel so much media to CONSOOM

2020-03-05 17:05:42 UTC

Yeah sort of

2020-03-05 17:05:48 UTC

all the shows you need to catch up on

2020-03-05 17:06:07 UTC

Anyway this would also bring back Malthusian conditions

2020-03-05 17:06:17 UTC

Old people actually commit suicide at a higher rate

2020-03-05 17:06:20 UTC

Brainlets soon will be unable to earn enough to buy food

2020-03-05 17:06:57 UTC

@EYEFORKNOWLEDGE156 Might be because their bodies are failing

2020-03-05 17:07:15 UTC

Imagine a person obsessed with sports being unable to pursue it any longer

2020-03-05 17:07:24 UTC

Being forced to sit in a retirement home

2020-03-05 17:07:26 UTC

etc.

2020-03-05 17:07:52 UTC

I don’t want to be on this rotating hell forever

2020-03-05 17:08:07 UTC

You wouldn't be

2020-03-05 17:08:25 UTC

Just look at the chance you have to die in a car crash every year you're alive

2020-03-05 17:08:30 UTC

Then extrapolate

2020-03-05 17:08:57 UTC

Unless you're highly risk averse eventually somethign will get you

2020-03-05 17:09:38 UTC

I also doubt that most people who object now would refuse to die any give day

2020-03-05 17:09:57 UTC

Even if they intend to eventually go from some philosophical abstract reason

2020-03-05 17:10:04 UTC

I don’t want to live forever
