In that case a human with no disease isn't a human at all
Nonsense
That's like arguing people who use antibiotics forsake their humanity or whatever
no, not really
you can be lucky and never need antibiotics
if you take away certain death within a predictable timespan you may fundamentaly change society
@Mr. Nessel if aging is a disease then Nature itself is one as well.
There are animals that don't age
The modern human life span and health in general is about as natural as a poodle
What animals exactly? There are some species that age extremely slowly but they do age. Modern life span of men is natural, in the sense that they are extended to their natural limit. Any specie has certain life span cap and until you break this cap your life span is natural.
Lobsters for example don't age as do a variety of shellfish
Various animals have genetics that do away with aging because they have better mechanism for repairing their DNA
Which causes their cells to never stop splitting etc. or deteriorate at a rate that is way, way slower than the human one
Given enough time evolution would take care of this in us either way since there's now a strong selective pressure to remain more youthfull and vital longer
The lifecycle of humans just takes a long time for this to work out
Of course this eventual age of Methuselahs would not be very comforting to somebody alive now
So it's only natural we cut the process short
This btw would not only stop aging but as cells start behaving properly again even in already old people would reverse some of the damage
No wrinkly skin, brittle bone, weaker muscle strength etc.
Of course even this wouldn't make someone immortal. There's certain chemicals the human body doesn't get rid of since they accumulate only in small quantities and ppl usually die before they become an issue
They become an issue if you live much longer than people do now
And nothing stops people from dying in a car crash or whatever
Given enough time anyone will die eventually
In the end I firmly believe immortality is a curse and goes against what we are and what made us great. Limited life span requires you to make effort and your time on this plane count. Without "end" there is simply stagnation.
That's just my opinion tho.
I actually think shorter lifespans are typical of more savage societies
Getting rid of old people in a humane manner would free up all sorts of ressources, allow us to retain some of our greatest minds and keep them working on things not just for decades but possibly centuries
It's not true immortality either way
Given a thousand years the chances of dying to an accident are actually pretty high
The downside with that I guess is that people would become (from our pov) irrationally risk averse
What would people do with their lives though
Work I guess
I assume what they do now
Kill themselves
Forever
The 180 year old Amazon wagie
I doubt people would kill themselves out of boredom
They are already doing it
If people lives longer that would probably make wealth inequality worse
There's so much stuff to learn and whatnot that you could pass well more than a millennium just reading stuff
@Mr. Nessel so much media to CONSOOM
