Trees can (but not commonly) be a vessel for a Kami (which is not really what we would consider a god). But they have defined gods which are themselves seperate from Kami

Trees can be used as a sort of host, used to attract Kami to the physical world for religious and cultural events

Well for starters, most eastern religions are polythiestic and they have a very old world relationship with the gods
