just because we pray for one another does not mean we should pray directly to saints.

Look, the prayers of righteous men are much more effective. The prayers of the saints are described as incense. Paul heavily encourages people to pray for each other.
Considering these things, it is wise to sometimes (not always) ask saints to pray for you.

Also, asking a living person to pray for you is quite different than asking a dead one that resides in Heaven
To say that the saints can hear your prayers is saying they are like God and implying they are at least somewhat omniscient
If Peter were alive and had a presence here on Earth right now I’d for sure ask him to pray for me

Aside from this, Paul *explicitly* states in 1 Timothy 2 that “there is *one* mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus”
That’s the significance of the veil in the temple and why the cloth tore in two, the barrier that separated us and Heaven was broken and we can now communicate with God freely as we are, via *Christ and His sacrifice alone*
We don’t need any priests, saints, or Popes to do it for us all the time
