>why would a tourist go to a tyranical dictatorship and possibley get arrested over breaking some trivial law

2020-03-07 00:41:50 UTC

Before the KSD had a ace in the oil trade so they could resist the American Empires social demands but now the US has the shale revolution

2020-03-07 00:41:57 UTC

that blocker is gone

2020-03-07 00:42:09 UTC

exactly

2020-03-07 00:42:13 UTC

Now US protection comes at a price

2020-03-07 00:42:24 UTC

their valuable resource has alot less weight than it did when they originally allied economically

2020-03-07 00:42:34 UTC

Keep in mind the americans will still protect saudi arabia because of the petro dollar and saudi control of OPEC

2020-03-07 00:42:42 UTC

@vexmasina44 It is possible they can exempt tourists of that law if tourism becomes too profitable. Saudi Arabia is trying to diversify their economy with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

2020-03-07 00:42:45 UTC

despite the shale oil

2020-03-07 00:42:51 UTC

It seems that while they have bribed Global interest with Oil concessions, Global interest isnt too keen on just the Oil concessions and want political leverage as well for protection

2020-03-07 00:43:13 UTC

I doubt anyone would want to visit that hellhole for any reason

2020-03-07 00:43:37 UTC

Many already go to the UAE for Tourism (Dubai)

2020-03-07 00:43:42 UTC

not to metnion that saudi arabia is getting bombed and destroyed by fucking yemen
which is poorer and smaller than KSA itself

2020-03-07 00:43:43 UTC

And the Americans have other concerns than oil when it comes to currency now

2020-03-07 00:43:53 UTC

there are real compeditors to the greenback emerging

2020-03-07 00:44:00 UTC

UAE is a completly different beast compared to KSA

2020-03-07 00:44:12 UTC

tbh not even the emiratis like the saudis

2020-03-07 00:44:49 UTC

The petro dollar system is under threat from ouside factors now. The money men dont seem to know what to do about it either.
there is alot of burying of heads in sand

2020-03-07 00:45:05 UTC

>go to saudi arabia
>get killed by a yemeni ballistic missile/drone attack
bottom text

2020-03-07 00:45:28 UTC

Pretty sure most of that tourism is religous though

2020-03-07 00:45:37 UTC

Mecca is in the KSD after all

2020-03-07 00:46:05 UTC

3 Million Mecca Visits a year, 16 Million Visits in just 2017

2020-03-07 00:46:21 UTC

Stewardship of Mecca is the only reason why the House of Saud is tolerated

2020-03-07 00:46:35 UTC

both mecca and medina are closed to non muslims
northeast of KSA is closed aswell because of shia natives are restless
but you wont hear that on the news

2020-03-07 00:47:11 UTC

KSA does have a shia minority that coinicidentally located near their largest oil fields

2020-03-07 00:48:27 UTC

@McFansy the only reason the house of saud is tolerated is because of american and NATO protection. if USA was gone tomorrow the iranians would curbstomp the saudis without a second thought

2020-03-07 00:49:09 UTC

within the Sunni Muslim world

2020-03-07 00:49:34 UTC

not even at that
pretty much all their neighbours hate them

2020-03-07 00:49:47 UTC

except bahrain which was invaded and is now a puppet state

2020-03-07 00:50:03 UTC

That only furthers the incentive to liberalize tbh

2020-03-07 00:50:14 UTC

for protection

2020-03-07 00:50:20 UTC

@vexmasina44 I thought they had some allies in the region

2020-03-07 00:50:48 UTC

I wonder if certain conditions will allow the Saudis to accept Constitutional Monarchy someday in the future

2020-03-07 00:50:51 UTC

the only state more totalitarian and autocratic than Saudis is North korea.
if Saudis liberlise they would collapse

2020-03-07 00:51:04 UTC

they have mutual interests
not allies

2020-03-07 00:51:15 UTC

They have money, therefore they have allies

2020-03-07 00:51:32 UTC

In politics, Mutual Interest is an Alliance

2020-03-07 00:51:43 UTC

yes
and if the money flow is disrupted
those allies will leave pretty quick

2020-03-07 00:52:07 UTC

When oil's value weakens in the future, and Saudi's Neighbors continue to be more angrier, would the House of Saud consider kowtowing more to America just to survive?

2020-03-07 00:52:09 UTC

The fact that they have no allies in the region means that they need the US more than anything and that gives incredible leverage to liberal forces to slowly creep into their society
