Your assumption is wrong, because you assume that god is the most important part, when its the least important one

2018-09-11 08:02:53 UTC

Do I really need to add a disclaimer to every statement letting you know that I know this isn't the truth in every single case? It still shows why the question is worth asking because people who do make that claim exist.

2018-09-11 08:04:40 UTC

Your assumption that because many people tend to need ideologies that religion is the only answer is also wrong as Buddhism proves with many people discarding all of the religious aspects for the philisophical.

2018-09-11 08:05:57 UTC

That proves my point, that its not about god and that it's utterly unimportant if God Exist or not.

2018-09-11 08:07:05 UTC

So then it's not about religion either. If you can have functioning communities and ideologies with all the religious aspects removed why does it need to be centered around a religion in the first place?

2018-09-11 08:07:49 UTC

Because you need to get your morals from somewhere and that is Religion and I'd put Buddhism in the Religion category as well.

2018-09-11 08:09:25 UTC

You are begging the question here. There are many places you can get your morals from aside from religion. Yes Buddism is a religion, but how many Buddhists have you met that fear the fires of Naraka?

2018-09-11 08:10:29 UTC

Most western Buddhists discard that and focus on the philisophical teachings. Those teachings do not need a believe in Diyu to function

2018-09-11 08:10:29 UTC

```There are many places you can get your morals from aside from religion.```
Name one
2018-09-11 08:10:40 UTC
Philosophy.
2018-09-11 08:10:52 UTC
You can call that a Religion.
2018-09-11 08:10:59 UTC
for example that Ayan Rand Stuff
2018-09-11 08:10:59 UTC
You can, but you'd be wrong.
2018-09-11 08:12:39 UTC
No, because it is something you believe in.
2018-09-11 08:14:02 UTC
If you're going to describe everything people believe in as being a religion, then sure, people need religion, but that isn't the sort of religion being discussed, nor is it anything close to the standard deinition of religion.
2018-09-11 08:14:11 UTC
Religion must be part of our life, it gives us values, brings us together, tames the beast in man and builds communitys.
2018-09-11 08:14:59 UTC
```close to the standard deinition of religion.```
But it should!

Because the Religion of the Letherjacket or the Fruit is just utter garbage.

2018-09-11 08:15:24 UTC

But you're the one arguing that those things should be considered religions since they're things people believe in.

2018-09-11 08:17:16 UTC

yes, real religions, not garbage like believing in capitalistic companys

2018-09-11 08:17:47 UTC

If you define anything that is important to people as religion then you don't get to choose what religion is.

2018-09-11 08:19:02 UTC

No, I don't define it that way.

2018-09-11 08:19:34 UTC

That is what makes a religion!

2018-09-11 08:20:19 UTC

Do I have to watch the whole 22 minutes to understand what you mean?

2018-09-11 08:20:21 UTC

The belief that the Product is without fault and its YOU that broke it, that there can not be anything else.

2018-09-11 08:21:19 UTC

So Judaism isn't a religion because it's not the individual's fault for original sin?

2018-09-11 08:22:12 UTC

I don't think I really get what you're saying here.

2018-09-11 08:22:25 UTC

Nor do I think we need a new definition for religion to begin with.

2018-09-11 08:23:23 UTC

We have terms like 'ideology' 'philosophy' and 'morality' that each can describe different things and to try and force them all under one umbrella with 'religion' only muddies the water between some very different concepts.

2018-09-11 08:27:47 UTC

Good morals generally come from good upbringing, though. I have friends with entirely-atheist families who are friendly, altruistic, stand up against bullies and try and help people wherever they go. It just so happens that since many religions have a focus on moral goodness- meaning yes, religious people can instil good morals, but so can people without religion

2018-09-11 08:28:03 UTC

Morality is independent of religion since sure, God can judge, but the actual repercussions of our actions lie in the physical domain

2018-09-11 08:28:20 UTC

Or at least, repercussions we can see and demonstrate

2018-09-11 08:28:43 UTC

If there is a God, fair enough, I won't be like "God doesn't exist" if I die and meet Ra or Odin or Yahweh

2018-09-11 08:29:08 UTC

But for now I work under the assumption that the physical world is all there is and operate thusly

2018-09-11 08:29:34 UTC

```Morality is independent of religion```
It is not. And you can prove it with China.
2018-09-11 08:29:53 UTC
It is, and I can prove it through my own individual experience
2018-09-11 08:30:00 UTC
As can many others
2018-09-11 08:30:06 UTC
So without religion you would be an immoral person?
2018-09-11 08:30:18 UTC
besides that, it is not provable that it has nothing to do with Religion as our values come from religion.
2018-09-11 08:30:24 UTC
Explain to me why you think just because I'm not 100% on board with religion, I am innately an immoral person
2018-09-11 08:30:44 UTC
That's untrue, my values come through my understanding of people and the physical world
