we have only had it for such a short time really
having access to internet is by far more positive tho
And yet we have major advances monthly.
but i got the luxury to not have it at all times
whilst people in africa do not
and they would benefit greatly from having it
True, but I dunno; I don't recall dumb phones being this much of an issue, and that was a leap in connectivity
yeah i only thought of it this way when social media + smartphones came about
~~I blame Fortnite~~
So I try and pinpoint some of the differences, and a major one I see is that it's harder to monetize your anger at your uncle's opinions through a dumb phone
thats true
My younger brother acts rather atypical for this generation
I'm being a little facetious, but the fact people _didn't_ profit from it the same way, and normally profit this way now, I think accounts for a big part (though not all)
But here's another question, altho i think it has to do with people needing to learn how to coop with this:
I'm on the edge of my seat. ~~Because the surgery I mentioned makes sitting any other way uncomfortable~~
At this very present moment, do you think its a good or bad idea that people can now just post whatever idiot idea springs into their heads at a moments notice to the rest of the world.
Instead of having to think for 2 seconds: Is what am i saying here making any sense?
I just look at it like the anus analysis
everyone has one just like they have an opinion
I think that people should actually think about what they say before posting, but they should be eduated about it before posting.
just way too much weight is put upon that right now
Dont get me wrong, im not arguing we should put a blockade up
I'm less sure that's itself the problem, though
But i think this whole thing is gonna need some time untill people learn to deal with it
It's kind of the same issue with the video game debate.
As in, kids and games.
I think it's fine that people can post whatever and have the whole world see/comment
what do you think is the problem then
People not educating themselves.
I think the bad thing is more that the incentive is to amplify the most divisive stuff (because it drives engagement)
Well but thats nothing new, everyone already had that problem before, they just couldnt share it with the rest of the world nor was it taken so seriously
From the platform's POV
hm
That's what drives the validation and the social pressure and stuff
but arent they on a censoring spree right now
OH, a verified person says it, that means it's respectable, and everything they say is respectable, etc etc
against exactly that
Shadowbanning you mean?
No just flat out banning
Well, both.
I think at this point they've just drank their own Kool-Aid
