Remember, most people buy pretty much just from Amazon

2018-10-28 20:12:06 UTC

We're arguing around the edges. Crypto won't replace payment processors.

2018-10-28 20:12:14 UTC

And it won't replace normal currency either.

2018-10-28 20:14:52 UTC

It doesn't have to to be useful or beneficial

2018-10-28 20:15:55 UTC

i think banks and payment processors should be forced to remain ideologically neutral in their business practices. the federal government can make their FDIC insurance contingent on it.

2018-10-28 20:16:02 UTC

Plus, that kind of claim is made about literally every new technology, and it always ends up being bigger than those who said it would never go anywhere

2018-10-28 20:16:59 UTC

@Atkins They actually already do. But they aren't getting involved for some reason. Citibank should have felt the wrath of the legislators already for their little gun stunt.

For some reason enforcement has been poor or not-public.

2018-10-28 20:17:20 UTC

regulatory capture no doubt

2018-10-28 20:17:34 UTC

I think it's Obama holdovers from Operation Chokepoint.

2018-10-28 20:18:00 UTC

I suspect a lot of it is also Republicans not wanting to get into fights.

2018-10-28 20:18:20 UTC

we also saw how fucking clueless the republicans are in general in the recent hearings

2018-10-28 20:18:20 UTC

Congress passes a law forbidding the latest stunt every couple years.

2018-10-28 20:18:40 UTC

Yeah, it's been very disheartening.

2018-10-28 20:18:48 UTC

But I put a good bit of blame on the base too.

2018-10-28 20:19:15 UTC

Conservatism as an ideology seems to idolize the idea of being quiet, not causing a fight and then making a change from the top somehow.

2018-10-28 20:19:21 UTC

But then no one ever gets to the top.

2018-10-28 20:19:27 UTC

And the top is always to afraid.

2018-10-28 20:19:44 UTC

You hear it from Ben Shapiro in his "my college professors thought I was a hard communist" stuff.

2018-10-28 20:20:22 UTC

The liberals I know (and especially progressives) have always idolized forming groups and fighting over any and all terrain they can, seizing resources when possible by any means necessary.

2018-10-28 20:21:14 UTC

I have doubts that the Republicans are really ready to do something, but I hear musings the intellectual class of the Republican party is pretty bothered. I thin being close to academia has them aware of the risks.

2018-10-28 20:21:31 UTC

there's also people who get stuck on econ 101 models and forget the litany of caveats they come with.

2018-10-28 20:21:36 UTC

Another issue is that too much of the Republican base thinks like Grenade.

2018-10-28 20:21:39 UTC

and the 'at least it's not the government' crowd

2018-10-28 20:21:45 UTC

Yes, exactly.

2018-10-28 20:21:52 UTC

There's alot of naivete in the base.

2018-10-28 20:22:08 UTC

And they are often the most active ones who aren't willing to recognize the threat.

2018-10-28 20:22:28 UTC

I used to be like that until I got into academia and saw firsthand where this all leads and how complete it can get.

2018-10-28 20:23:25 UTC

People are beginning to suspect something smells in the academy, but it's worse than people realize. And the thought leaders of the left want to take that homogeneity and oppression worldwide.

2018-10-28 20:31:47 UTC

Funny, I always found the center right to be a lot more raucous that the center left. That may be because it's the center right that called me names and wanted to deny my family the right to exist. Again, it's all perspective. No one likes to be on the receiving end.

2018-10-28 20:32:24 UTC

I'm now trying to cross the divide and see the world through your collective eyes. Hopefully you might try the same from my end.

2018-10-28 20:34:39 UTC

"I'm now trying to cross the divide and see the world through your collective eyes. Hopefully you might try the same from my end." No, I will never see "Through your collective eyes," because everyone see things differently. Instead I will empathize and try to relate to how YOU SEE THINGS.

2018-10-28 20:35:11 UTC

I'm not sure what you're referring to unless you are referring to the moral puritans on the religious right. Those guys believe in knocking on doors and annoying everyone--even on the right.

2018-10-28 20:35:20 UTC

That's what I meant

2018-10-28 20:35:33 UTC

Yeah, they're increasingly marginal these days.

2018-10-28 20:35:38 UTC

Oh I have fun trolling Mormans!

2018-10-28 20:36:18 UTC

"Conservatism as an ideology seems to idolize the idea of being quiet, not causing a fight and then making a change from the top somehow." <- This is what I was referring to. I'm pointing out that the fundamentalist Christians have not been quiet at all about not liking "my people"

2018-10-28 20:36:30 UTC

Who are "my people?"

2018-10-28 20:36:34 UTC

GLBT

2018-10-28 20:37:09 UTC

Trolling Mormons, Khanclansith?

2018-10-28 20:37:17 UTC

How so?

2018-10-28 20:38:23 UTC

the religious right is dying of old age. they would never have permitted the election of trump if they had any real influence anymore.
