True, but by saving lives their actually hurting lives... right?

2018-10-30 23:09:19 UTC

I’m not saying they shouldn’t regulate. I just don’t think the politicians should cut off all access

2018-10-30 23:15:36 UTC

At a national level, politics is a calculation of human lives. We could talk about whether they're causing more harm than good, but the fact that the legislation causes people any amount of suffering isn't a refutation of the act by itself.

2018-10-30 23:16:01 UTC

But yes, a total cutoff is probably not the best decision.

2018-10-30 23:18:28 UTC

So how do I get this message to politicians?

2018-10-30 23:20:35 UTC

Sending them messages, but they mostly ignore those.

2018-10-30 23:20:43 UTC

You can stage a protest, but it probably won't be big enough.

2018-10-30 23:20:57 UTC

You could strike out violently, but then you'd be dismissed as a loonie.

2018-10-30 23:20:58 UTC

And thank you for answering my question. A large part of the reason I signed up here was because Tim seems like a decent guy who actually cares

2018-10-30 23:21:10 UTC

I’m not violent at all

2018-10-30 23:21:21 UTC

I’m not the protest type either

2018-10-30 23:21:23 UTC

Oh, the opioid debate

2018-10-30 23:21:27 UTC

Tim really does seem to be doing his best to understand issues, and he gets a lot of respect from me for that, even when I think he's wrong.

2018-10-30 23:21:40 UTC

As a medical provider I think we've swung too far the other way now

2018-10-30 23:22:21 UTC

I also am 10th Amendment Cat for a reason. Regulation of professions is not enumerated in the Constitution and therefore authority to regulate it resides with the states and not the federal gov't.

2018-10-30 23:22:40 UTC

Thank you! I cannot tell you how many patients are considering or have taken their own lives because of this

2018-10-30 23:22:49 UTC

I understand the FDA and regulation of medications that are part of commerce

2018-10-30 23:22:52 UTC

Which is a shame.

2018-10-30 23:22:58 UTC

Solid statistics would be nice.

2018-10-30 23:23:07 UTC

But regulating what I can prescribe is supposed to be a state decision

2018-10-30 23:23:32 UTC

I know, I have them in my notes. I’ll get them for you as soon as I can

2018-10-30 23:23:45 UTC

It really is a shame how many constitutional clauses get ignored/reinterpreted for convenience these days.

2018-10-30 23:23:53 UTC

Rick Scott is such a butt head

2018-10-30 23:24:05 UTC

Yes, there are a lot of frightened people out there. That said we got really stupid as a nation with opioids.

2018-10-30 23:24:07 UTC

He actually thinks he’s a doctor

2018-10-30 23:24:23 UTC

Yes, two of my cousins are drug addicts

2018-10-30 23:24:41 UTC

But, two other are vets who now cannot get the meds they need

2018-10-30 23:24:56 UTC

Opioids need to be used responsibly and we forgot that from about 1995 through about 2015

2018-10-30 23:25:11 UTC

While my drug addicted cousins get drug rehab over and over again

2018-10-30 23:26:52 UTC

And now the health insurance companies aren’t covering the drugs, the chain pharmacies refuse to fill them and the mom and pop shoppers get all the pain scripts, which looks suspicious to the DEA. I don’t know what the answer is?

2018-10-30 23:28:57 UTC

Sorry to be a downer. I had to ask. Return to your normal conversations now 👍🏻

2018-10-30 23:29:29 UTC

No, this is an important conversation to have.

2018-10-30 23:29:58 UTC

Absolutely. Very timely.

2018-10-30 23:30:12 UTC

And Cat, the sad thing about the 10th Amendment is, the ones who uphold it will always be at a disadvantage to those who ignore it.

2018-10-30 23:30:22 UTC

Yeah

2018-10-30 23:30:48 UTC

Look at Goldwater. Amazing man. Totally comitted to the rights and freedoms of individuals.

2018-10-30 23:30:54 UTC

Got blown out by that crook Johnson.

2018-10-30 23:30:54 UTC

You should speak with Rye.

2018-10-30 23:31:24 UTC

He's so absolutely in favor of federalism you have to suspect he might be a separatist at times.

2018-10-30 23:31:42 UTC

But he's got lots of arguments and history in his head about the 10th.

2018-10-30 23:31:45 UTC

As far as opioids, I see much of the problem that we don't want providers to actually spend time with patients anymore. If we have to see 6 patients an hour then the way to do it is give people in pain opioids and people with colds antibiotics. We get what we pay for - an opioid epidemic and superbugs.
