everyone gets what they have been promised, but new workers no longer have to pay into the system. they'll only get a bond proportional to what they've paid in.

2018-11-10 22:09:57 UTC

couple of decades later, all the bonds will have come to term and the whole problem is solved.

The elderly can be cared for by friends and relatives. Failing that, they probably would end up in low-paying positions and low income housing. With their higher than average medical costs, they would most likely die younger.

2018-11-10 22:12:21 UTC

no real need for that. with the bond conversion idea the elderly still get their money. but young workers are going to have to learn to make significant retirement savings.

2018-11-10 22:12:57 UTC

If you arent doing that already you're in for a rude surprise

2018-11-10 22:13:01 UTC

the whole process of weaning society off social security will probably take 30-35 years, but it'll be much less painful.

2018-11-10 22:13:16 UTC

And what of people who cannot afford living expenses or health care in advanced age?

2018-11-10 22:13:26 UTC

Then they get help or they die.

2018-11-10 22:13:40 UTC

charity and family.

2018-11-10 22:13:50 UTC

Will the electorate accept the elderly dying for lack of money?

2018-11-10 22:14:04 UTC

Hmm? Probably. Once the electorate is younger.

2018-11-10 22:14:27 UTC

I think Penn Jillette had a good line here: "If you want to help people, then help them"

2018-11-10 22:14:29 UTC

I mean I keep hearing that what has to happen to make the country better is that "the old racists need to die off"

2018-11-10 22:14:43 UTC

if you personally feel that there are elderly people who need financial help, then help them

2018-11-10 22:14:57 UTC

that's compassion

2018-11-10 22:15:20 UTC

I do but I can't help everyone

2018-11-10 22:15:28 UTC

So you would make other people help everyone.

2018-11-10 22:15:34 UTC

no one is expecting you to

2018-11-10 22:15:34 UTC

and that's a noble thing. but using the force of government to redistribute wealth is not noble.

2018-11-10 22:15:39 UTC

And in a world as you described I need to think of my own retirement

2018-11-10 22:15:45 UTC

Yes. Start saving.

2018-11-10 22:15:49 UTC

do you not do that already?

2018-11-10 22:15:54 UTC

I already have a fairly healthy IRA.

2018-11-10 22:15:54 UTC

Oh, I have

2018-11-10 22:16:08 UTC

Social security cant possibly cover all living expenses

2018-11-10 22:16:20 UTC

Like I said, the Brazil bubble was very nice to me

2018-11-10 22:16:26 UTC

but if you helped one person, and everyone else did the same, we'd run out of charity cases

2018-11-10 22:16:30 UTC

Among other things

2018-11-10 22:16:37 UTC

Boeing stock

2018-11-10 22:16:54 UTC

If Boeing tanks I'm sunk

2018-11-10 22:17:13 UTC

Oh, shoot, I need to move more of the IRA into foreign stocks to take advantage of growing Brazilian economy, you're right.

2018-11-10 22:17:21 UTC

You might wanna get out of boeing slowly

2018-11-10 22:17:41 UTC

Their 737 prototype had a major incident thats not boding well

2018-11-10 22:18:37 UTC

Boeing is still behind much of the surveillance tech that will make for a secure border

2018-11-10 22:18:56 UTC

Boeing is a leader in border tech

2018-11-10 22:20:25 UTC

So go Trump go :p

2018-11-10 22:20:44 UTC

How has your IRA growth been in the past 2 years?

2018-11-10 22:20:54 UTC

Mine's been *pretty* good.

2018-11-10 22:21:14 UTC

Nice until the trade war bullshit

2018-11-10 22:22:33 UTC

The best thing for my IRA was the fact I carried a lot of cash in 2007 and dropped it in the market in 2010. Obama was better for me than Trump by far.

2018-11-10 22:23:31 UTC

So far at least. If only Trump would be disabused of destroying the trade economy.
