Of course there are things that satisfy more immediate needs, such as food.
If food was scarce, if there was only one sack of potatoes each month, its price, relative to entertainment, would change.
Then food would be expensive.
But food is not only essential, it is also plentiful in our parts of the world nowadays, thank god, which is why its price tag has fallen. It is still as necessary for us to survive before, but there is more of it, there is more of a supply.
Yea. But im frustrated with how things are going.
Like how things are made cheaper but more expensive
What is the value of a human life? Sadly, to many people it's not much. It's not capitalism that has failed - it's people. The price tag just reflects that.
And because there is more and more people to sell
The value of each individual goes down
Especially since ppl can sell worldwide
And your frustration is an expression of your value, how you spend your money.
If enough people feel like you, the markets will reflect that.
Oh i went the self reliant route
If enough people think Britney Spears is garbage, she wouldn't be able to sell as many tickets at the price she does. Capitalism didn't do that - people spending their money, according to _what they value_, did that.
You cant change thag. Value of people is only gojng to go down
You can pnly make yourself mlre valuable
The market isnt going to fix that. Its the reason its that way
Because you are just one person.
You also express your value in how much you buy of something, not just IF you buy it.
If entertainment is half as important to you, you would go to the movies every second weekend, instead of every week as a friend of yours who values it twice as much as you do.
If there are 100 people like you and 100 people like your friend, the price for movies will settle in the middle.
Capitalism didn't do that. You going to the movies did that.
Human nature i know
Yes.
And itll keep repeating itself
The market is people
Believe me i get all that
And if we all decided to live an ascetic life style, the market would reflect that, too.
The only things in demand would be simple robes and prayer books.
The economy doesn't "need" either thing.
The economy simply "economizes" (i.e. rations things of limited supply).
But thats not capiltilism
Of course it is.
Capitlism does not equal economy
Capitalism is one form of managing the economy.
It does equal our economy
It is one way to ration things of limited supply.
And its the way its been managed that lead us to where we are
Where every single country is.
Just because you buy and sell prayer books doesn't make it less of a market or less capitalistic.
It means you engage in trades of your own free will.
