Petty theft of your local corner shpp shouldn't lead to prison as it is proven to be counterintuitive

However, rapists and certain murderers should be treated worse (granted, it is a big risk to do that as there are many cases which led to innocent people being arrested due to police incompetence or simple unfortunate circumstances)

I think the problem is that we focus way too much on prison and not enough about what led them to that moment

That's not the case
