okay, let me explain "just because" to you: it's fun. because it is fun. it's fun to gain, it's fun to win, it's fun making predictions and seeing you were right in your calculations and machinations coming true. mmmh, that tasty serotonin
and you couldn't say that before because....?
it's probably too obvious for me, sorry
We have so many things wrong with our brains that we have a huge list of specific names for them.
I've seen too many people solely acting for emotional self-reward and the like. Fewest of them "competent", but they all do it.
too many? try all people.
minus those who are logically beyond reason
or more accurately logical to the point they are labelled as being mentally ill.
no, there are exceptions. few in number but... there's little reason for you personally standing up for others you don't even know much in the face of danger
pathological altruists certainly are mentally ill in a way 😛
but then so is everyone who doesn't want to acknowledge the dark side, the evil disguised behind a smile, in humanity in the people around them
Not all people act solely for themselves. There is probably a few people on Earth that are truly selfless. Like Deku in the anime Boku no Hero
😃
>there are many be a few people
>only example is not a real person
yeah... but you have to competent enough and able to survive and sustain yourself in your selflessness
because most people who do that just die
or at least get so close to it that they grow bitter and shut themselves in
tell me, what is the point of survival?
depends on the resolution
there is no stopping it
at the lowest i'd say sustenance and spread of genes
so why delay it?
stop the nihilism you twat
its not nihilism. its an honest question.
Also I just noticed this is the newsroom
it is a nihilistic question, figure it out yourself
we all die, this is a fact. Yet we try so hard to try and survive. Why?
because that's the only way you will accept the answer that does not kill you
everyone has a reason.
but if genes if a reason and you have children, the only way to keep your genes alive beyond your death, then being altruistic to those younger than you makes sense as their bodies will be better suited to keeping your children alive than yours. This only becomes more important the older you get.
you're on a good track there
also the right track to figure out why tribalism works the way it does
to a limit though
yes
Altruism is only beneficial, if the people don't need it in the first place
Else they become dependent, and then can't survive without you
and since they dont need it in the first place for altruism to be beneficial, it doesnt work
that would depend on how you exhibit your altruism.
blindly doing anything is not, generally, logical.
and just handing out things for free without reason is blind altruism
