No country in the schengen has control of their borders. No 'country' in the EU can make their own trade deals. No country in the Euro can make their own monetary policy. You are a state.

the only slight difference (for some counties in the EU) is currency
states can't make own currentcy while obviously some EU members can
you can get rid of the euro if you want, you can leave the eu and you can make your own laws...

The Euro would only work for Germany and France, the others are to poor in comparison.
i mean, you get sanctioned if your laws are against eu-"suggestions" but that's it
