Now we've got the reactionaries. Who would be the natural analog to the radical left, but they're rather toxic and lack any sense of discipline or PR.

2018-07-30 23:33:27 UTC

Everyone knows the Alt-Right is toxic and more likely to harm themselves and anyone associated with them, but the Alt-right isn't going to shut up either.

2018-07-30 23:33:30 UTC

yeah i mean reacting willy nilly to everything, even if selectivley moderated, isnt very organised

2018-07-30 23:33:48 UTC

no matter how much you moderate your reactions/what you react to

2018-07-30 23:34:19 UTC

To some extent anarchy is good. But oyu have to be able to specify specific goals and reach them.

2018-07-30 23:34:29 UTC

yeah the alt right is like the loud special kid in the back of the class everyone feels too akward to tell to their face to shut up

2018-07-30 23:34:31 UTC

You also have to be able to assert dominance so to speak in the private sphere.

2018-07-30 23:34:36 UTC

and instead talks behind their back all day

2018-07-30 23:34:42 UTC

Which is a horrifying concept to calssical liberal ideology.

2018-07-30 23:35:02 UTC

I think http://slatestarcodex.com/2017/05/01/neutral-vs-conservative-the-eternal-struggle/ sums up a key element of how stuff like GamerGate happens.

2018-07-30 23:35:13 UTC

It's a defeat in detail.

2018-07-30 23:35:35 UTC

^Also a very good read, IMO.

2018-07-30 23:36:49 UTC

I just realized this was a really bad place for this long discussion.

2018-07-30 23:36:57 UTC

2018-07-30 23:37:11 UTC

2018-07-30 23:37:14 UTC

2018-07-30 23:37:24 UTC

Slatestarcodex is a pretty simple blog.

2018-07-30 23:37:53 UTC

2018-07-30 23:39:51 UTC

2018-07-30 23:40:03 UTC

ok sick that works

2018-07-30 23:40:05 UTC

tyty

2018-07-31 00:02:03 UTC

yeah that op ed covers alot of ground and i think your right in saying it hits the nail on the head of the mechanism that has led to the current political climate in terms of these cultural bubbles in academia, the MSM, silicone valley, ect...

2018-07-31 00:04:24 UTC

honestly though it does seem as though the left will be suceptible to the sort of thing the right has been going through soon enough

2018-07-31 00:05:53 UTC

in terms of very overtly partisan media groups seperating themselves from the current mainstream (to form their own liberal directed mainstream) because of lacking systematic unilateral power

2018-07-31 00:06:15 UTC

once trump gets re-elected

2018-07-31 00:07:09 UTC

even though thats a bit off i think it gives just enough time for the sort of unfurling (into radical far-leftist ideology) the left has slowley but surely been going through

2018-07-31 00:07:56 UTC

for it to get to a point where we will have essentially 2 paradoxical mainstreams, both equally ignoring facts for the point of reinforcing their own existance

2018-07-31 00:08:27 UTC

with any sort of reasonable centre fighting for what little views they would get

2018-07-31 00:32:27 UTC

Oh sure, but a few billion for a border wall is completely unacceptable

2018-07-31 00:32:32 UTC

Double standards

2018-07-31 00:33:53 UTC

XD lol yeeeeuup

2018-07-31 00:34:24 UTC

More rape for the illegal smugglers yaaaaaaaaaaay!!

2018-07-31 01:03:05 UTC

Yeah, I feel that Vox is actually the left separating itself from the mainstream. The subtle trick is that they are doing it in a way to look neutral and take the swing votes with them. Klein was a very far left op-ed writer and editor before he started Vox and it tends to show. You can add HuffPo, Buzzfeed and Vice to this list.

This end state is actually the situation in the UK. You've got left papers (The Guardian, the BBC, Daily Mirror) and then you've got right papers (The Telegraph, The Times, Daily Mail)

I do *not* think this is a good solution for society as a whole nor do I think it works well in every industry, such as academia. But if you cast everyone out and go crazy, it's probably the equilibrium solution under a 2 party system.

2018-07-31 01:08:11 UTC

Yeah i mean it makes more sense in the US under a 2 party system

2018-07-31 01:08:39 UTC

As opposed to in the UK with its mulitple parties

2018-07-31 01:08:51 UTC

Also canada has it like the reverse

2018-07-31 01:09:36 UTC

Where the mainstream is blatantly unapologetically leftist but there isnt really much of a mainstream rightwing media

2018-07-31 01:10:13 UTC

Outside of alternative media of which the largest are blatantly right wing

2018-07-31 01:15:15 UTC

Hm. It seems to be a stable solution for media atleast.
