More people, higher demand, higher prices

2018-09-03 22:09:30 UTC

And the guys running into Manhattan tend to be very rich too.

2018-09-03 22:09:40 UTC

They can afford it

2018-09-03 22:09:49 UTC

So they help drive up the cost of living

2018-09-03 22:10:19 UTC

But NY is also the most taxed state in the country.

2018-09-03 22:10:30 UTC

Competing only with NJ (which may as well be NY) and CA

2018-09-03 22:10:40 UTC

People way underestimate the effect of taxes.

2018-09-03 22:11:03 UTC

I lived in DC briefly. When you see the price of gas jump 35 cents by just crossing the state line...you figure things out.

2018-09-03 22:12:01 UTC

NY and NJ tend to pass tax agreements to prevent arbitrage on taxes (which people do anyway). They still have obscene income, sales and property taxes--all which make it harder and more expensive to live.

2018-09-03 22:13:00 UTC

It's bizarre because NY has a super metropolitan area in NYC but mostly outside of that is almost rural

2018-09-03 22:13:08 UTC

But they all get affected by the same taxes

2018-09-03 22:13:17 UTC

Upstate NY hates NYC with a passion.

2018-09-03 22:13:26 UTC

I can understand why

2018-09-03 22:13:30 UTC

Ever wonder why Trump seems so angry? He's upstate personified.

2018-09-03 22:13:57 UTC

Didn't he grow up in Manhattan?

2018-09-03 22:14:05 UTC

Trump is very much from NYC.

2018-09-03 22:14:25 UTC

But the anger and seeming lack of agenda at times is very much how Upstate thinks.

2018-09-03 22:14:43 UTC

Hillary is NYC personified. Corrupt, urbane and sophisticated.

2018-09-03 22:15:07 UTC

Ah okay. I can see the parallels

2018-09-03 22:15:30 UTC

Yeah, 2016 was the NYS election.

2018-09-03 22:15:54 UTC

And as it turns out, the upper midwest is a lot more like Upstate than downstate. So Pennsylvania broke like Upstate.

2018-09-03 22:16:07 UTC

Any demographer could have said as such.

2018-09-03 22:16:44 UTC

You have that kind of schism in most areas of North America

2018-09-03 22:17:10 UTC

Few highly populated urban areas surrounded by tons of rural

2018-09-03 22:17:20 UTC

Pretty much.

2018-09-03 22:18:22 UTC

Those metropolitan areas where initially founded due to economic favorability and the satellite smaller cities sprout up over time

2018-09-04 04:01:28 UTC

Sucks, but thats what it takes I guess. Fuck that place.

2018-09-04 04:13:47 UTC

I have family there

2018-09-04 04:13:53 UTC

shits depressing to me tbh

2018-09-04 04:13:59 UTC

its a nice town

2018-09-04 04:14:05 UTC

good colleges (VMI and Washington and Lee University)

2018-09-04 04:14:12 UTC

lots of history (Mostly Civil War related because of VMI)

2018-09-04 04:14:36 UTC

fuck, the Red Hen is like some upper class shit, just go ANYWHERE else in town

2018-09-04 04:27:15 UTC

No one wants to go there and be shit on. They'll spend there money elsewhere

2018-09-04 04:39:03 UTC

Isn't Lexington one of the more conservative cities in VA? WLU is one of the more conservative Universities as I understand.

2018-09-04 04:59:36 UTC

I feel like this denial of service shit is going to cause a counter reaction tbh

2018-09-04 05:00:10 UTC

Wherein those people just get fucked hard by others in their community who bear the brunt of their political snobbery

2018-09-04 05:02:17 UTC

Im not too comfortable with shit like that becoming the norm.

2018-09-04 05:02:39 UTC

Where one person's actions hurt the livelyhoods of everyone besides them.
