"We'll keep voting until we get it right"
I'm not sure that's an 'F' though. She has joined all the others up. It could be ''Parliament vote ( or a public vote.''
It's times like this I really wish I didn't have dyslexia.
@Poppy Rider the problem is, in the US, if you are born here, you are a citizen. And my concern is immigrants knowing English enough to past the test, then not teaching their kid English.
Hence why must an English test to be a citizen is not enough, I think to vote you need to pass an English test. That way their kids either can't vote or need to know English. They are probably more likely to speak English to start, but still.
Also, I don't think the US has an official language, and perhaps it should.
Disagree with language test. They have a history of being abused.
I think you do have an official language.
Abused how?
But, I do agree that English should be the official language.
@Poppy Rider we do not. About half the states or more do. But not the US as a whole.
ah
Should get on that.
Literacy, used to be required to vote.. But, they were written in such a way that they were impossible pass. So when a minority the test proctor did not like, they could say the failed.
If you want some thing more specific you will have to give me time to find an example.
So it's the same problem voter ID laws had.
Voter ID laws would probably be easier to pull off.
If it's impossible to pass, then even 7th gen Americans wouldn't pass, thus the problem would correct itself because no one could vote and they would be very very angry.
Also, we have computers now to do testing, so you can remove the human from parts of it.
I agree, they can be abused, but I did say everyone should have to do it. Yes, that might put mentally handicapped at a potential disadvantage, that is another problem
I agree, but if we go this route. I feel that it will be necessary to add more community resources to help those willing to learn English. If they are here legally.
I don't have a problem with that. Although I'd rather incentive it with tax deductibles than direct federal funding.
Encourage communities to fund this.
Not the government
Instead, however, the government seems to try and mandate kids learn Spanish in public schools.
Agreed

"Hate speech" laws being used to silence political dissents in a socialist regime. Never thought I'd see the day.
And that is why the Racial Socialist want hate speach laws
I think most of us are vaguely aware of china's social credit score bullshit, but this very easily digestable article does a good job at going into a little more detail on how it works http://abc.net.au/news/2018-09-18/china-social-credit-a-model-citizen-in-a-digital-dictatorship/10200278?pfmredir=sm
I actually think we could soon have something like that in the West. We already have Corporate loyalty programs. I can just see corporations deciding they are going to step up to their "social responsibility" and reward behavior through such programs. Many will likely merge them as they already have.
I doubt the government would do it too explicitly (that would be too obvious) but I can totally see companies using it to push certain beliefs and behaviors that they find suitable.
like they already are?
Not quite yet. It would be far more subtle and far more influential. Right now it's "buy our product." It's becoming "support X charity." It would become "support X event"
I keep wondering when people are going to get a little more skeptical about some of the genetic testing that gets sold these days. SOme of it is solid, like the best paternity tests are pretty darned good, but these long intergenerational mitochondrial DNA things have issues.
There's a few full reports on most of the DNA/ancestry testing sites. They're sketchy as fuck and not as accurate as they claim
Something about selling your DNA to 3rd parrty labs and medical facilities as I understand.
I also hear they've actually muddled with results to screw with people they didn't like.
