you could

2018-09-25 14:08:33 UTC

hang on wait let me rephrase that

2018-09-25 14:08:59 UTC

the actual mechanics when it comes to political marriages is absolute shit

2018-09-25 14:09:09 UTC

very shit

2018-09-25 14:10:18 UTC

so, if for example, you marry one of you're female generals that is on the field to another faction

2018-09-25 14:10:26 UTC

they still stay as your general

2018-09-25 14:10:34 UTC

guys can you take it to <#464233883303673868>

2018-09-25 14:10:43 UTC

i guess?

2018-09-25 14:11:18 UTC

@Atkins its relevant to discussing the controversy mentioned earlier, with total war getting reviewed bombed with a recent update that allowed female generals

2018-09-25 14:11:48 UTC

so if the inverse were to happen

2018-09-25 14:12:00 UTC

dude you're just talking about the game

2018-09-25 14:12:07 UTC

Posh has claimed the controversy is overblown, I'm trying to figure out if it is, but i don't know the game mechanics

2018-09-25 14:12:08 UTC

the mechanics

2018-09-25 14:12:11 UTC

never played the game

2018-09-25 14:12:16 UTC

which is relevant to the discussion

2018-09-25 14:13:08 UTC

based off the things i've see so far, i think the criticisms are a little more valid than some people think, but that it was an unintended side-affect.

2018-09-25 14:13:37 UTC

you still wouldn't be able to recruit a female general if you married her from a faction that allows female generals, if the faction you are playing as doesn't allow female generals

2018-09-25 14:14:04 UTC

i'm not sure about the inverse

2018-09-25 14:14:21 UTC

i will have to do some more in depth research on that part

2018-09-25 14:15:35 UTC

so is it not possible that, if you try and marry off all your children (idk but this generally seems to be a good idea in these types of games set around this time period), that you could have a near 50/50 split of male/female options to pull from when picking a general, no?

2018-09-25 14:16:09 UTC

yes

2018-09-25 14:16:28 UTC

i never said the critiscism was unwarrented

2018-09-25 14:16:42 UTC

i'm just against the guys putting all the fake info out

2018-09-25 14:16:59 UTC

like *"oh hey, you can recruit female generals for rome"*

2018-09-25 14:18:06 UTC

or *"wow i only get female generals for my general selection screen on the start of the game"* <- unless RNJesus pulled all the fucking stops, this should hardly happen

2018-09-25 14:18:59 UTC

its bound to happen with enough people playing or enough retries

2018-09-25 14:20:57 UTC

but the video you linked omits the fact wives can now be generals (assuming females are allowed to be generals). Then goes to claim that the spawn rates are somewhat believable for that time period. However, the people playing the game most like see, suddenly, going from like no female options to upwards of a near 50/50 split. That doesn't seem to like a believable spawn rate for that time period, but i don't think it was intentional either.

2018-09-25 14:21:36 UTC

So i don't think the controversy is that overblown. but that doesn't mean you don't have idiots. You always have idiots.

2018-09-25 14:21:56 UTC

like some guy probably saw he had a general that said it was roman despite him playing as the other faction

2018-09-25 14:22:10 UTC

so he goes "oh look, Rome can now have female generals"

2018-09-25 14:22:37 UTC

perhaps not realizing (or intentionally omitting) that its the side he is playing as that allows female generals

2018-09-25 14:24:04 UTC

thats a big hazard if he is jumping back into a game he had already started, and just saw he could pick a roman female to be a general even if its because he is playing as barbarians or whatever

2018-09-25 14:24:22 UTC

ye

2018-09-25 14:24:37 UTC

facts that people can easily correct....until the community manager calls everyone a bigot then people stop caring

2018-09-25 14:25:32 UTC

yup

2018-09-25 14:25:34 UTC

i'm actually interested in the timing. i'm willing to bet the review bombing was slight and only significant because the game is so old now, but once the CM called people idiots im sure the bombing went into overtime

2018-09-25 14:28:51 UTC

probably

2018-09-25 14:29:00 UTC

i'm checking the steam reviews again

2018-09-25 14:29:45 UTC

i saw a positive review that mentioned the company went the lazy route with its "diversity" push

2018-09-25 14:30:19 UTC

meaning they didn't offer like a free DLC with a focus known female leaders or such
