this is another reason why american constitution is the best: https://www.projectveritas.com/2018/12/10/veritas-suit-makes-first-amendment-history-changes-ma-recording-law/
@Timcast Something perhaps..more upbeat to talk about this week

This is the craziest thing I have seen in a while. Some guy put messages in this Scala code about Trump.
>all those posters on damage control
"Code was never just code..."
That commit was accepted?
I think the guy who made the commit owns the repo. So probably
Pathetic.
that seems to be the case
``` Not a Trump supporter, but the last thing I want to see when I'm just trying to get work done is more political BS... this is the wrong medium. ```
Is the most sensible comment
Nothing is safe from SJWs.
Linux is next
too late
I like the conflation of unrelated politics and requests for donations (to continue funding development)
Linus already bent over for some feminist.
his daughter most likely
In any case though, like some of the comments stated, you can just create a politically neutral fork
The only problem would be if github et al decided to go partisan
they joined this i believe https://www.contributor-covenant.org/
So is there going to a purge of white males from the Linux kernel project?
yep, linux is on the list
There might be a purge of wrongthinkers from the main branch but there will still be shitlords working on linooks overall
"In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as
contributors and maintainers pledge to making participation in our project and
our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body
size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression,
level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal
appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation."
you'll have to find the right branch now
contributors already tried to find ways to pull back their code over this being forced on them. but there is nothing they can do but not work on it moving forward
A load of guys that contributed patches aren't happy about it and they can pull them anytime they like. So there might be a hard fork of Linux at some point
most likely
They don't need to pull code. Licensing dictates that they have to provide the source regardless
No
For Linux, yes. That's the point of GPL. Even if someone is a shitlord, they can use your software and they can modify it so long as they pass those changes on
What share of the project team is this load of unhappy guys?
They cannot stop the project from getting forked and their contributions being used by people they don't like short of changing the licensing
@devpav a growing one since some members already used this code of conduct to remove personal enemies.
They can't call it Linux though
Which I'm fairly sure *will* trigger a rush to get commits yeeted
I'm pretty sure they can keep the name, just not all the commits made under GPL
