If China had stayed purely on the path of communism it would not exist today. Everyone would be dead.

also the reason why communism stuck so easily in asia, is because they do have a very collectivist culture

Very strong internet censorship. No Facebook, YouTube etc. But that isn't so much for thought control as it is to protect their own stuff, like tudou, youku, Sina weibo
