Your police chief is appointed by your elected mayor. Your sheriff is elected. Your judges, many of them are elected.

Unless you live in a liberal stronghold, your vote matters. For a lot of places in say Washington, Oregon, and California, it's done.

Where I live, my vote for president does not matter, the state is 2/3 Rep anyway. But who I vote for in the sheriff's election, that DOES matter
