Did you check chicago tribune ? I'm not saying there's the claim, only that Tim used it as the source of Smollett news, so it might be there

That's a bold claim to make by @Timcast . It would imply Chicago is misallocating police resources and excessive targeting of Jussie. It sounds like police were looking for a gotcha moment
or they assigned them to solve a high profile case that made their city look bad, only to discover it was a hoax
