Like Britain at times already feels like an anarcho-tyrany
b-but the EU *is* authoritarian.
oh i know
im getting in an argument the op about it now
legit having to explain the EUs structure
he thinks that its all elected positions
only Parliament is elected by voters
Council matches who ever the States chief of state is, which is kind of elected by proxy, and the Commission is elected by Parliament
fuck now he's pushing the whole if the EU didnt exist all the countries would be fucked thing
Well, say that its impossible to prove.
Since all the countries in the EU are now being fed, unlike the US is doing just fine. Well, finer than most EU nations.
convo shifted to EU reform lol
well, as someone from country sandwiched between hungary and poland, I don't think there is anything worriesome going on in either of those so far
at least nothing new I'm aware of
yea i mean i cant speak for those countires but Romania, which is where this guys from, is corrupt af, and we are trying to figure out what could be done about it now
oh corruption is a standard here, it's inevitable in post socialist countries
yea
its part of his argument for them staying in the EU
which i guess is fair
problem seems to be is that there is no push for reform
You could ask him if he would prefer for people in his immediate community to have a say in how things should work or if a few unelected people from across the world who can’t understand the situation of the people living in his area should decide things for them.
I don’t know where he lives but if it’s the EU one day they can import 200 migrants into his town/city where they’d have no say in the matter and be forced to deal with it even if the local population knows they won’t be able to handle the influx.
somewhat covered that already lol
I said that the commission should have a system like the US does with the Pres. where they do popular vote with electoral college
apparently thats come up but was opposed by those in power
He's in Romania
He tried to argue from emotion at first but stopped when I started talking about the EUs structure and how it had undemocratic elements
Then it went into how it could be restructured to give member voters more say
Then it went into Eastern Europe lol
Now I’m presenting the cultural concern
idk..EU and it's money brings about it's own corruption
def
the Euro was smart tbh
dont mean its good but it makes people reliant
The Euro was good for some countries and bad for others though
The differences in wages, automation and level of general production in advanced areas causes problems with a shared currency
It was a great deal for GBR and GER but Greece and to some extent Italy it can be seen as far less profitable
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/06/26/justice-secretary-dont-send-women-prison-unless-commit-violent/ im not sure if this is real
Does it surprise you after ruling like 'context is irrelevant' ?
I mean if they just be like 'we gonna home jail (or however you call it in english) crimes like shoplifting', who could protest that. But no, it's gotta be any non-violent crime and woman only.
home jail? you mean house arrest?
