i just said that was one point of the issue

2018-12-05 19:38:48 UTC

but the biggest point id make is that more profit now might hurt a country down the line

2018-12-05 19:38:53 UTC

So whats the argument about so we stay in line?

2018-12-05 19:39:14 UTC

In what way?

2018-12-05 19:39:20 UTC

Compared to what also?

2018-12-05 19:40:28 UTC

Talk about moving the goalposts. China's eagerness to starve its own people is an economic advantage to be exploited if we choose to trade with them, but a moral crisis if we choose not to trade with them?

2018-12-05 19:40:46 UTC

No, I'm saying the moral argument against Chinese trade is nonsensical

2018-12-05 19:41:07 UTC

Because the alternative to a shit job with no other options is no job

2018-12-05 19:41:21 UTC

then why not Vietnam?

2018-12-05 19:41:26 UTC

or misc. country

2018-12-05 19:41:29 UTC

That's a false dilemma.

2018-12-05 19:41:31 UTC

That was brought up earlier as well

2018-12-05 19:41:34 UTC

For the Chinese to improve they must innovate

2018-12-05 19:41:49 UTC

Look at the industrial revolution

2018-12-05 19:42:10 UTC

They can get innovation through property aka patons

2018-12-05 19:42:16 UTC

*rights

2018-12-05 19:42:29 UTC

Thats the point of Made in China 2025

2018-12-05 19:42:46 UTC

The alternative to a shitty job is a less shitty job if the environment for creating less shitty jobs exists.

2018-12-05 19:42:46 UTC

?

2018-12-05 19:43:11 UTC

Can you prove that such an environment exists?

2018-12-05 19:43:11 UTC

They must innovate to get better jobs

2018-12-05 19:43:17 UTC

The west isnt the problem

2018-12-05 19:43:44 UTC

We don't have to prove that it exists, just that it's possible.

2018-12-05 19:44:37 UTC

>36% of the Chinese working population is in sweatshops

2018-12-05 19:44:43 UTC

Lolwut

2018-12-05 19:44:49 UTC

what does that have to do with anything?

2018-12-05 19:45:17 UTC

"We don't have to prove that an alternative for these people exists to make the moral argument that they shouldn't have the job they do"

2018-12-05 19:45:25 UTC

🤔

2018-12-05 19:45:33 UTC

what?

2018-12-05 19:45:43 UTC

No economic policy will help China if they cant recognize human rights

2018-12-05 19:46:16 UTC

@m1 devpav in charge of trying to salvage the moral argument

2018-12-05 19:46:28 UTC

the moral argument is valid

2018-12-05 19:46:37 UTC

It isn't

2018-12-05 19:46:38 UTC

but its not the whole thing

2018-12-05 19:47:03 UTC

That wasn't a moral argument, it was an economic theory argument.

2018-12-05 19:47:17 UTC

both are valid

2018-12-05 19:47:47 UTC

I you want to help China refer back to the industrial revolution

2018-12-05 19:50:49 UTC

The only one making a moral argument is Beemann, in the bizarre claim that the poor Chinese people for some reason won't figure out what to do with themselves if their export sector shrinks.

2018-12-05 19:51:28 UTC

I just want to trade with China if they can trade fairly. I have nothing against the Chinese people either, and view nobody above another. But if China cant help themselves to not steal IP, or for unfair business practices. I think it best we increase tariffs at the expense of lower profits to fix the systemic issue. And I think the EU needs to pick anything to do

2018-12-05 19:52:00 UTC

>the only one making a moral argument is Beemann
M1 made it initially, with the slavery comment

2018-12-05 19:52:13 UTC

And then said it's still valid lol
