On the topic of Su-57 cost, nobody knows. Official estimation stands at 50 mil, since it's not in production yet, that figure can be thrown out of the window
100 mil was quoted for the indian version hence why they dropped out
*hugs his upgraded PSGT helmet*
su-57 will not cost 50 million after RND
they wont even make very many most likely
if they make them at all at this point
afaik they are kindof giving up
I thought the PAK-FA had been canned?
looks like they are supposedly flying prototypes right now still
with introduction in 2019
est 9 billion in RND so far
Yeah, they moved four into Syria in late February
assuming they make 100 planes, thats 90 million a unit in RND alone
its questionable how stealthy it is as well given that the engines have a cylindrical profile
not particularly carefully shaped airframe
maybe just stealthy from certain angles
which is reasonable
if mainly the front aspect is stealthy they can still have surprise when they initially engage
Oh wow, they actually conducted their second phase engine tests in flight in late 2017
So they may very well launch with engines that aren't shit
wikipedia: In early 2018, India pulled out of the FGFA project, which it believed did not meet its requirements for stealth, combat avionics, radars and sensors by that time.
Yeah, wonder what they'll go for instead
possibly nothing
China isn't too likely to give them J-20 at this point
Or that, yeah
its not that likely j-20 will even be good
china is like 'hey we dont really have a pre existing aerospace industry but dont worry guys we totally nailed everything on the first try'
Well yeah, but Pakistan is supposed to be flying them
some planes > nothing
true
but if they cant really get the performance they want for their money
then it may just not be worthwhile for india to buy stealth stuff
they are less concerned with cool looking propoganda pieces than some
so they may just avoid stealth entirely
for now
Don't get me wrong, Su-57 isn't likely to be too good either, but it's something usable plus R&D experience
that would probably be one of the upsides for india
if they buy f-35
they will be no closer to making one themselves
su-57 at least they can get involved a bit
