AGENCY
holy fuck that took me a while to remember
agency is the capacity of individuals to act independently and to make their own free choices. By contrast, structure is those factors of influence (such as social class, religion, gender, ethnicity, ability, customs, etc.) that determine or limit an agent and his or her decisions.
worldview
yes basically, i had no agency of my own, literally sheeple
to be fair, i wouldve been an sjw by now if it werent for 4chan
i notice all the indoctrination technique used by my school
Well I would probably still be a libertarian socialist if it wasn't for sargon
yea he's been pretty good influence as well
I think I actually found him because he called out someone I watched
sargon is a little bit up his own ass but the people he is criticizing is much worst, so he gets a pass.
not perfect by all means, but he was very moderate and sane voice in the mess I was in
Is it safe to say that if it werent for gamer gate many of us wouldnt be here?
Like i wouldnt have founded Tim if it werent for Sargon, and i wouldnt have found Sargon if it werent for the gamergate thing
I had no clue what gamergate was back then
...Did y'all live in the same place or something growing up? I thought it was always pretty prevalent that people didn't quite understand society correctly. Or maybe it's from accidentally moving from the boonies to higher than expected suburbia as kid (then out of region for college), on my side.
I was forced to learn when every gaming publication, podcast, and my coworkers all universally agreed that gamers are evil and harass women.
^
I just wanted to play video games 😦
all of a sudden im seeing a plethora of news article calling the games that i love 'a shit'
I knew only basic of goobergate and what was going on but didn't care much since I underestimated how bad it was at first
Well I am like 17 and barely touch video games so I never ended up caring about gamergate at all
Be glad you didnt experience it, although it was enlightening, its was also incredibly stupid
Thinking of it, I was pretty insulated from the whole ordeal at first, because I was never much into social media so only heard about it from the original /v/ threads and stuff before mods banned it
gamergate resulted in me and a majority of 4channer beginning to question the media
because young me assumed that the media is always right
When you've been called a racist your whole life just because of where you grew up, you get pretty inured to this stuff.
GG achieved its goal of instituting ethics policies at game journo sites but certainly did not achieve the secondary goal of changing the minds of those within the industry away from the ideas they bandwagoned on to.
they doubled down over the next years
hard
It doesn't help that basically every major US game developer is in either Seattle or somewhere in California
I think Bethesda and Ubisoft is on the East Coast.
Depends on the studios themselves. Publishers own developers but they are separate entities.
its hard to setup a studio in middle america, very limited labor pool
Much of the talent is relocated anyway.
It is true though--plus it is hard to convince people to move to a place where there aren't other jobs to take when you're laid off after every project.
But yeah, point was you have a bunch of weak beta developers who agree with whatever they're told and mostly live in Commiefornia or Lenin Statue City.
Oh right that Lenin Statue
i find it funny because the statue is privately owned
Communism is pretty rampant there, they even elected someone from the "Socialist Alternative" party to the city council
If its okay to punch nazi because we fought a war against them, it should also be okay to punch commies because we fought them for much longer
