The joy of Android is that it's FOSS, so people make forks
It's a dystopia, you're supposed to stop it. Not create it.
you cant stop it if it never happen
But do the forks actually matter?
Well google got fined earlier by eu
So I cut out the main android fork.
the bigger the fish, the better the catch
Yes, Android has some nasty security problems
I don't want to fuck around with my phone you see
It's my only one
Its not hard
I've been saving for a couple of months to buy it
That's fair. The fork I use is device specific to a list of like 7 or 8 devices now
So there's that too
And you can almost always fix it
Oh, I have nougat
I will say though that it's not hard to do
Copperhead
how google free is it?
No play store or framework, no bad camera app, different SMS app, chromium instead of chrome
F-droid or apps that skim the play store, or just straight APKs
hold on, are you saying the andorid camera pps are bad?
The android camera has a bunch of security flaws, or at least did when I made the switch
And then the additional apps you get on the store are usually cancerous
Did not know.
My only regret is not looking into the TorPhone project, which is basically Copperhead+Superuser and a few Tor apps
Are there compatibility issues? It seems like phones with quirks might have driver problems
You get updates specific to copperhead. Your phone doesn't have google play framework so Snapchat and such won't work
Any app that requires a Google process to run won't work because you won't have the process
But everything else is fine
How would you know if you use a google process in an app?
Honestly F-Droid is good to check out regardless
It tells you when you install it
There's probably a list somewhere too
Honestly, I know android is spying on me, but what's the worst that can happen really
It's just to target ads at me. It's not like they're looking through my camera
I mean they can
If you wanna go dark 100% you need to not have a smartphone though
It's just about the threshold really
