Corporations are not part of a free market. It's a government label
I may be armchairing like a gotdamned fool.
how about companies selling shit that causes cancer because it is more profitable to just settle with the people that sue than to not sell shit that causes cancer
But that aside, as long as your country is desirable people will flock to it
Governments also make tradeoffs like that
I remember when it was impossible to know if something had trans fat in it because you don't have to print it in nutrition if its less than 0.5.
Heh..heheh...heheheheh..have you ever seen people longing to get into socialist countries ?
main problem the free market has is that it can only respond to things it knows about.
so if you are good at hiding that your shit causes cancer you a-ok to sell it
And yeah that was what the Pinto was infamous for.
The fiery explosions would be cheaper to settle than to prevent.
Assholes.
And the Canadian government used fucking agent orange to clear out flora in the interior
Which results in the same shit
You could argue that a particular company or market exacerbates an issue
But it is incorrect to point to the results of an issue and say "this could only occur in a free market"
Because there is invariably a public option that did the same shit
Sargon has said that the trains have been absolutely packed and miserable ever since they were privatized.
Which surprised me to hear the first time.
Multiple times iirc
I think the primary issue with transit is that competition isn't terribly easy to build up
You're not going to have 8 competing train systems in a packed city
So you need to come up with other ways to hold the provider's feet to the fire
Probably doesn't help that it's a union thing either
so, do we get the new place tour today for the second channel ?
the fireplace thing really looks majestic
When I see 'union' in a sentence it's almost never positive.
That's because Unions have forgotten their purpose in a lot of ways
any time I hear union I can only imagine a mob of mobsters trying to force companies to pay them
unions in the us do the opposite of what they are supposed to do
I can't imagine employing people and paying them so shit they need to get food stamps.
What is it like to be a Walton heir..?
How do they justify it in their heads?
Most people who start business from the ground up can't justify it.
they give to charity
Most of those who inherit huge business, have no connection to the people working for them and don't give a shit
and then tell the world how virtuous they are for giving to charity
