its roots are very much swamped in free speech... one of the earliest adopters was stephen fry

Sargon’s new vid “The Social Parliament”

2018-08-08 12:08:23 UTC

@wacka correct

2018-08-08 12:08:23 UTC

it sort of became a way for plebs to interact with celebs

2018-08-08 12:10:41 UTC

@wacka when i worked at nbc one of the producers asked me about twitter and news , i told them news comes out on twitter before you guys even report it by the time you report it its old , they told me ...at that time we have to verify the story before we publish it ...now today you think they do that ? HELL NO

2018-08-08 12:20:43 UTC

I guess we've gone from an age where getting the story out "first" really meant getting as many viewers - this meant prime time tv (so not necessarily first to break the story) but now prime time is instant updates on peoples phones

2018-08-08 12:23:39 UTC

You know i was never into politics or news ....i was into video games , magic the gathering, tech stuff computers.... then they started Poisoning it ... and i had no choice but to see politics ...

In this I heard that there's many employers now who check social media before hiring anyone. And if you have no facebook at all, then bam. You're not out of the runnings entirely.

2018-08-08 12:50:43 UTC

What sort of pathetic culture is this now.

2018-08-08 12:51:01 UTC

People with the most sense, are punished the most.

2018-08-08 12:51:30 UTC

I can imagine the argument "Well if you weren't gonna be hired for that reason it's probably a pretty miserable workplace"

2018-08-08 12:51:53 UTC

The hiring process is ALWAYS stupid.

2018-08-08 12:52:23 UTC

No one ever knows what they're really in for. Everyone pretends they can filter well enough to get the perfect candidates and all it does is make expert liars out of everyone.

2018-08-08 12:53:32 UTC

interesting that the new muslim congress woman ran completely unopposed, no republican opponent

2018-08-08 12:53:42 UTC

What is the purpose of conveniences like cell phones or social media if you become expected to have them to make a living?

2018-08-08 12:53:54 UTC

They're not convenient anymore, they're COMPULSORY.

2018-08-08 12:54:08 UTC

This is why I take exception to people calling us a spoiled generation.

2018-08-08 12:54:22 UTC

All of this technology that we're supposedly spoiled with, we're OUTCAST for not having.

2018-08-08 12:54:58 UTC

People just want the best, and that goes on to assume that THE BEST employee has a facebook and cell phone.

2018-08-08 12:55:20 UTC

oh shes the daughter of palistinian immigrants... thats going to be interesting, given some of trumps moves in israel

2018-08-08 12:56:16 UTC

Yeah, the whole "check their social media" thing has gotten out of hand

2018-08-08 12:56:44 UTC

I know it started as "We want to make sure that they aren't doing stupid shit in the background", but the requirement of having social media to get a job is ridiculous

2018-08-08 12:56:52 UTC

Any gift to humanity becomes a curse as soon as employers get to snoop on it.

2018-08-08 12:57:23 UTC

Adam Carolla on one of the Joe Rogan podcasts, he brought up a story where he was talking to an employer at a dinner table in the middle of the night

2018-08-08 12:57:38 UTC

He had a question for the employer, and the employer CALLED AN EMPLOYEE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT to get an answer.

2018-08-08 12:57:56 UTC

Well for fuck sake, wasn't that trespassing on the guy's free time?

2018-08-08 12:58:03 UTC

What is this shit?

2018-08-08 12:58:45 UTC

At my last job, the VP of the software department straight up told us to our faces that if there was an issue in the middle of the night, he wanted to be able to call us to fix it

2018-08-08 12:58:56 UTC

Off-time is off-time, how did this indentured servitude get such a long reach.

2018-08-08 12:59:11 UTC

I can understand if lives are on the line in the medical profession.

2018-08-08 13:00:23 UTC

In my current job, not only are we not expected to come in at all hours of the day to fix shit, we get overtime

2018-08-08 13:00:30 UTC

government contracts are great

2018-08-08 13:00:39 UTC

I dunno what that means.

2018-08-08 13:01:29 UTC

The company I work for is a Department of Defense contractor, so they're required to pay all employees overtime, whether we're in salaried positions or not

2018-08-08 13:01:55 UTC

Last week I worked 50.4 hours, and I'll be paid for 50.4 hours

2018-08-08 13:02:39 UTC

I've been unemployed for years now.

2018-08-08 13:02:45 UTC

Drives me nuts.
