and dozens of famous pundits etc

2018-08-11 13:29:08 UTC

granted the entry market is shrinking for YT and Punditry

2018-08-11 13:29:13 UTC

Extra money goes to improving his content

2018-08-11 13:29:18 UTC

So this justifies faith in space colonization solving economic problems that will happen in our lifetimes....

2018-08-11 13:29:30 UTC

This is not a convincing argument.

2018-08-11 13:29:42 UTC

neither is your "Oh I dont see it happening, so its magic" argument

2018-08-11 13:29:46 UTC

Dozens of pundits are not starving due to patreon, therefore ???

2018-08-11 13:31:25 UTC

Elon Musk, notorious optimist, claims that one-way travel to Mars will cost $250,000 in current dollars by 2050.

2018-08-11 13:33:47 UTC

Being a little more realistic I think we can say that merely traveling to another planet will still be outside the means of a low-skilled worker for the remainder of my lifetime at least. Let alone being able to afford the cost of living there without a skill.

2018-08-11 13:34:05 UTC

thats only cuz theres no race to get there ASAP

2018-08-11 13:34:12 UTC

So Joe Truckdriver ain't going to get a ticket to Mars to solve his financial problems.

2018-08-11 13:34:20 UTC

This is a nonsense argument.

2018-08-11 13:34:43 UTC

Nor is he going to get Patreon support.

2018-08-11 13:35:39 UTC

You realise it took less than 20 years to get to the moon right? Cuz we finally wanted to

2018-08-11 13:35:46 UTC

I think I'm a little better positioned than Joe Truckdriver to survive in the coming economy, but if I had to live off Patreon money I think I'd starve.

2018-08-11 13:36:02 UTC

How many people live on the moon.

2018-08-11 13:36:05 UTC

This is silly.

2018-08-11 13:36:11 UTC

Thats so not the point

2018-08-11 13:36:14 UTC

Yes it is

2018-08-11 13:36:21 UTC

Zero money is generated on the moon.

2018-08-11 13:36:29 UTC

yes and thats not the point

2018-08-11 13:36:34 UTC

You are being silly.

2018-08-11 13:36:50 UTC

the point was that you can easily upgrade space-flight if you just get a competitive market for it

2018-08-11 13:36:53 UTC

Why not talk about replicators and warp drives \

2018-08-11 13:37:00 UTC

now who's being silly

2018-08-11 13:37:03 UTC

Or fucking stargates

2018-08-11 13:37:18 UTC

We could all just warp to a new planet.

2018-08-11 13:37:19 UTC

"Oh i don't see it happening, therefore it must be impossibruuu"

2018-08-11 13:37:26 UTC

Wanna go pray to the sky-gods for rain too?

2018-08-11 13:37:32 UTC

There could be a competitive market for stargates.

2018-08-11 13:37:58 UTC

We could have Apple stargates that would be white glossly plastic, and Google stargates that could be all matte black.

2018-08-11 13:38:43 UTC

so your argument is, You saw Star Trek on tv, therefore space flight is impossible

2018-08-11 13:39:08 UTC

No I'm very bullish on SpaceX. But it's not in any way shape or form a solution to problems in the labor market coming in the next ten years.

2018-08-11 13:39:25 UTC

This is happening right now.

2018-08-11 13:39:36 UTC

Space colonization is not going to happen in our lifetimes.

2018-08-11 13:39:42 UTC

You're the one using SpaceX as the template

2018-08-11 13:39:55 UTC

The next generation might see small bases. The generation after that might see self-sustaining.

2018-08-11 13:40:18 UTC

so 20 years?

2018-08-11 13:40:23 UTC

But we have to deal with the real world now, and waving your hands and saying SPACE is not real.

2018-08-11 13:40:54 UTC

50 years is self-sustaining, got it

2018-08-11 13:41:00 UTC

I'm going to stop talking to you now because it's clear you're not a serious person.
