I think it has to do with the sudden thrusting onto a public stage, let's say you make a post online anonymously and it's pretty heavily fucked up and now you have friends and neighbors and family all reading it not understanding what you may have ment and now you just want it all to stop so you just give in because you think it'll make people stop.
