also I love Vee he is a good boy
I would say while that might be true for the more ideologically evangelical at the top, there's a lot of true believers that are genuinely blind to other cultures within their country/state
Plus intent is somewhat beside the point. The lack of recognition alone is a driving force
Vees dislike of reading and flippant remarks about being told to read a book. Yet he is clearly a well read man. I know he's joking but it sounded like something he'd say.
By "bias", Bloomberg means "racism", right?
wew lad
Think this is going to the supreme court?
There are two possible outcomes here. 1.) Harvard is forced to abandon affirmative action entirely, or 2.) they just tweak their admissions algorithm to reject more whites in favor of asians.
"The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups sided with Harvard Thursday in advocating for racial diversity as part of determining who gets in" 😛
But yeah, if you're asian you basically have no hope of getting into the Ivy League unless you're some world-class genius.
Just being a regular over-achiever with perfect grades isn't enough.
Maybe if you amputate a limb, dye your hair pink and declare yourself gender non-binary two-spirited otherkin or something.
"Asian-Americans made up a record 22.7 percent of the class." ... imagine what that number might be without the racial bias!
It will be fun to see affirmative action abolished to see what the reaction will be when 50% of classes a Asian. We'll see who really was for equality and who wasn't then.
Just to put my record straight. I'm for class base assistance but not racial or sexual orientation.
I think most people would agree with that
i'm for directing people to trade schools
but those don't exist much anymore
I would as well. But not all geeks grow up with money.
Thank god for scholarships. Wouldn't have been able to afford college otherwise. Shit's a damn racket
same, i got off with a pretty low amount of debt. basically none compared to my gf.
then again, my scholarship was bs imo
"honors", what a joke.
should be called the "cheaters" scholarship
I am happy for scholarship, but I got a scholarship because I am hard of hearing aka disabled, not because of my ability. That irked me a bit and I didn't stay in the college long, because I felt like I was taking someone else's chance.
like everyone was only in the honors program because they knew how to game the system
and i only got in for not risking my grades in high school by intentionally aiming under my ability so i always got good grades.
They didn't take in account my grades, which were 3.5 GPA.
They ignored that and gave scholarship to me based on my disability.
could have been worse, could have been because of your skin color
It felt like I was cheating others who are more worthy than me.
One of the one's I got was my state's scholarship lottery one. That was just about 2.5k a semester but got dang the requirements were a joke. It was a minimum of something like 3.5 GPA and an 18 on the ACT. It's less now b/c surprise surprise when they're that low anyone can get that money.
a fucking 18 on the ACT?
wow
you could guess your way to that.
I got a 29 on the act and i felt like i did horribly
right?
After a year of struggling with my conscience, I told them I am quitting school and they should give my scholarship to someone who is more deserving than me.
Don't quote me on that, it was almost a decade ago. I'm looking up the stats now, but yeah. It was *low*
think i got like 30-32 range
