Light keeps travelling until it hits something, it doesn't just randomly stop.

And, to prove the fact that the earth is a sphere, find a place near a hill, lie down and watch the sunset.

Wait until the sun has completely set, then quickly go on the top of the hill, and you will be able to still see the sun a bit.
