Looks like the last flat earth server I was in got deleted or something, so I decided to find a new one.

So I wonder if a lot of people actually believe the "planes would have to dip their noses from time to time" argument.

It doesn't make sense to me. Why would a plane have to dip its nose occasionally, at intervals, rather than slowly and continuously?

Earlier today I was wondering about the difference between conservatives and libertarians.

I know more or less what a libertarian is. They're all about maximizing individual freedom, I think. Do whatever you like, as long as you're not impinging on someone else's freedom to do whatever _they_ like.

What I'm not clear on is how conservatives differ from that.

Ahem. I think America's biggest problem is that too many people are trying to leech off the system rather than get off their butts and contribute to society. It's not hard to get a job, if you don't have unrealistic standards. I have no sympathy for people asking for handouts.
