there's the vaxx article
oh sorry
i was told to post this in lounge I'll move it
damn say
same*
not say sorry
lol is anyone here flat earther im round earther willing to debate civililly
m8 this was made in 1922
I could be totally wrong but
ah the vacuum argument
as in?
exactly
plus
the atmosphere isn't a constant pressure
it gradually decreases in pressure with altitude
so there's no huge pressure difference between the edge of our atmosphere and the beginning of a near-vacuum that is space
?
it's not a perfect vacuum
rockets work
by seperating matter from the craft
this creates kinetic energy
that applies thrust to the craft
no medium is required
think about it like this
let's say
you are in space, floating, right
no gravity, for all practical purposes a vacuum
now imagine
in front of you, is a large block
if you push off the block
you and the rock will both move in opposite directions
the same is happening with a rocket engine
the fuel mixes with oxidizer and is ignited to expand in a chemical reactipno
reaction*
this moves the fuel out of the rocket chamber, essentially "pushing" against the rocket
the rocket moves because of the force applied to it
not because it applies force to a medium
the smoke is from the burning of fuel
kind of what happens
the engines have to throttle up first
so you get some fumes
the rocket is also
restrained
so that the engines can throttle up
it is then released from clamps
and if its engines produce more thrust than it has gravitational attraction to the earth
it will immediately begin moving upwards
the smoke has nothing to do with a pressure differential
no
it's coincidence, not causation
yes, smoke is present
that's because when you burn carbon based fuels
they tend to smoke
so the fuel that is creating thrust
also happens to be creating smoke because it's basically a kerosene fire
I haven't watched the video but I assume that you are watching a space ship launch off from the ground right
?
I mean
if it needed a medium to move
it would have the atmosphere to push off of so
smoke isn't necessary
space isn't a perfect vacuum
no large area in the universe is
no but there's not a huge difference in pressure
simply put
if you go up to 100km
which is around where space is agreed to begin
but still has a thin atmosphere
it's not like
the air is pressurized at one atmosphere
and then immediately switches to a near perfect vacuum
gravitational attraction pulls gases toward the earth, and the compression forces from the gasses on top
provide higher pressure at sea level
and with less gas on top the higher up you go, the lower the pressure
in fact, the earth's atmosphere may extend, at an indescribably small thinness, hundreds of thousands of kilometers away from sea level
But you get to a point in deep space
where the amount of matter in a given space
is so miniscule, that the degradation it causes in movement and orbits is negligible over any reasonable amount of time
in fact, the ISS has to perform periodical boosts to keep its orbit high enough every couple months
as it loses 2-4 m/s in that time frame from orbital degradation
as they are only I think 450 km or so above the surface, so there's still a little bit of atmosphere to be slowed down
but geosynchronous satellites, which are around 1500 km up, are more subject to gravitational forces from the moon than the atmosphere
it's basic physics
did you not
listen
to a single word that we just said
well guess what
one, that analogy is completely unrelated and two, the earth has existed for 4 billion years my guy
ikr
the atmosphere's change of pressure is gradual
that's why plane cabins are pressurized
if you stuck your head out of a commercial plane, you'd probably freeze to death and/or suffocate
that's why it's hard to breathe on mount everest and not on the beach
yeah you have to acclimate to the thinner air to be able to go up to even some of the first base camps
without oxygen supply
If anyone else wants to argue about flat earth I'm still open to having a debate
I don't even know why I come on these servers
