it was just the end of its mission, and they are cutting down on space debris, hence my name

so they de-orbit expired sats now

well ESA do i dont know about NASA

NASA are bad for space debris

its cheaper to hurl it into the atmos

because of the fuel required to slow it down, they dont pack that much fuel onto sats

they de-orbit over point nemo in the pacific

its the largest patch of ocean in the world

very safe

i have seen a de-orbit myself, its quite spectacualr, you can hear it slightly as it comes lower

they cant land it because of fuel issues, they need to expend a lot of energy to slow down

they dont have the budget for self landing sats

plus it costs a lot of money to re-purpose sats

its cheaper to build new ones

spaceX do retrieve some of their rocket, they bring back the main stage and land it for re-use

im yet to go and see that

its hard to slow down something travelling at 17,000 km/h

the main problem here is they are replacing gravity with gravity...
