I mean itโs a college campus, and Iโm actually happy to see that on the discussion topic, especially since it looks like theyโre covering the arguments for and against censoring hate speech
People should have that discussion, because people should hear the arguments for and against hate speech laws.
If one side refuses to learn the other sideโs argument society canโt progress forward, and people will just keep screaming at each other with their fingers in their ears
Thatโs literally the point of a college education, study & learn all sides of an argument
I mean, that assignmentโs not wrong. Mass media 100% trivializes women & makes them feel inadequate, because thatโs how theyโre able to scam them into buying a shit load of feminine care products that the majority of women donโt actually need
Itโs a giant marketing ploy designed to prey on female inadequacy by showing them โperfectionโ and then promising them they too can achieve that level of perfection by buying our products
Itโs a giant scam
Like it turns out Women are great for advertisers. Stick a sexy woman wearing very little clothes next to anything and you immediately draw the eyes of most men to your advertisement. Put a sexy women next to some care products and tell women you too can be like her if you use xyz to sell to women
If you tried doing the same to a guy, youโd probably only attract female eyes, which you can do with a sexy woman as well
So why not just use the female model since sheโll potentially attract male eyes as well. Even if men wonโt buy the product they might remember the brand name & talk about it
Like the SJW movement may have jumped the shark and gone full crazy, but the movement did start with some legitimate talking points over actual issues, and IMO the depiction of Women in the media was one of them
Thatโs because Digimon is sweet
I mean, Chelsea didnโt just chose to stand with the left. She chose to openly align with the Antifa left. The faction that openly tells people open discussion with right wing individuals (all of which they lump in with Nazis) is bad and makes you no better than Nazis. Like no shit her side was going to turn on her when she spoke to openly right wing people and didnโt constantly scream at/shit on them.
Sheโs clearly trying to get back in their good graces
I mean, just because youโre willing to blow the whistle on government corruption doesnโt mean youโre knowledgeable in politics or even intelligent
It just means you have information that proves wrongdoing and a moral compass thatโs telling you what the corporation/government is doing is wrong
Eh, I just look at this whole thing, and I just donโt give a shit. Like, why the fuck am I suppose to care who Chelsea Manning spends her free time with? Why does anyone care? Why do I care what her relationship with Cassandra Fairbanks is? Like, I understand why Tim cares, since Cassandra is his friend, but why does anyone whoโs not actually friends with either Chelsea or Cassandra give a shit?
So what? Why should someoneโs personal life have any barring on their activism?
Martin Luther King Jr. had affairs and was a pretty sexist guy. Who cares when his message is all about equality for all races, and bringing blacks & whites together.
Nobodyโs perfect. Everyone has flaws. Flawed people can still have good ideas
My tablet likes to make dumb corrections all the time
Very few people are 100% good or 100% evil. Even the best people have terrible ideas, even the worst people have some good ones.
With their whole โliberals get the bullet tooโ slogan
I mean, the only reason the Christian Bakery lost that court case is because they Doxxed the gay couple.
They launched a full scale harassment campaign against them
The stupid Bakery posted the coupleโs address online leading to them receiving constant death threats. The $135000 fine had nothing to do with discrimination laws & everything to do with the emotional damages from getting constantly harassed by internet trolls
Definitely not, but you canโt go posting peopleโs private info online
The bakery is a business. The couple didnโt go around posting the Bakerโs personal address. Naming and shaming a business is different from posting a private citizenโs personal address
Not really, one makes your work life shit, the other makes your personal life shit
I agree, they shouldnโt bother giving their business to assholes who would refuse it
And so they posted a vocal public review against the bakery for refusing service. Thereโs nothing wrong with that
The lawsuit only happened because their address got posted
The couple sued because the Bakery posted their info in response to a scathing bad review they left after the couple was denied service
If youโre leaking classified information about our government violating human rights (such as the surveillance state violating our right to privacy) itโs not really you betraying your country. Iโd consider that more revealing the fact that your country is betraying you. On the other hand if youโre just leaking classified information that reveals no wrongdoing for the sake of leaking classified information, yes youโre betraying your country.
The only Amazon series I've seen currently is The Man in the High Castle, and I loved it so so I have high hopes
Why canโt men raise kids & women work?
Also Iโm not really seeing how women being in the workplace lowers Menโs salaries.
Thereโs literally no difference between me staying home and raising the kids and my wife working vs my wife staying home raising the kids and me working
Tell that to Zachary Turner
I never said the mother canโt be more empathetic. Itโs almost like naturally assuming all mothers are more empathetic is just as irrational as assuming theyโre not. Judge people individually, not as collectives
Except youโre not going by facts, youโre going by scientific assumptions
Just because the mother is more likely to be better suited to raise children in any given relationship, doesnโt make it true of every relationship
Which is specifically the argument Iโm against
I mean, a loose hypothesis gives you loose results
Which is sad considering autism isnโt a disease, you canโt cure it.
Thereโs nothing to cure though. Autism isnโt a sickness, itโs a disorder that effects state of mind.
Sure in the future you might be able to temporarily readjust their state of mind, but the default will always be the same
Considering no mental condition in existence has ever been cured
Treatable sure, but thereโs a major difference between take this drug once and youโre good to go vs take this medication once a day every day
I sincerely doubt medicine will ever evolve to the point where humans have learned how to rewire a human brain
because the trials required to do so will almost assuredly be considered torture
And unless we get the second coming of Nazi doctors who donโt give a shit about their patients o donโt see us ever getting there
How else would you propose doctors experiment on live human brains in order to change the way they perceive the world in a way that wouldnโt be considered torture?
Except you canโt torture volunteers? You can thank shit like the Stanford Prison Experiments for that
Even if we can keep a brain alive in a jar, how do we know how that brain currently perceives the world? Hell, how would it even perceive the world?
Iโm fairly certain it takes more than medication to rewire the way a human brain perceives the world
Because just taking medication is going to be more treatment, less cure
And the methods of discovering many cures are largely considered barbaric by todayโs standards & would never fly in the scientific community today
A lot of our knowledge of the brain came as a result of lobotomies. Great for research, less great for the patients.
But at what point do governments step in & start extending these grown test subjects human rights? Hell Sophia the robot AI was just given Saudi Arabian citizenship.
If Iโve learned anything itโs the fact that the American government shits all over science every chance it gets
Hopefully once we start colonizing other planets we tell the governments of Earth to fuck off, but Iโd be willing to bet even on Mars weโll have shit like Martian America or Martian Russia
Legit just link the article itself
Wikileaks has also built up a reputation of not publishing lies
If you canโt prove to them what you have is fact, they wonโt publish it
Sure Wikileaks may not publish everything, sure they may be biased and target specific groups with leaks, but you can be certain that anything they do choose to publish is true
There may be more to the story than whatโs published through them, but what is published is true.
Itโs up to the reader to determine if whatโs left out is left out because of Wikileaksโ biases or because Wikileaks didnโt want to make a claim it wasnโt 100% sure of
And we all trust cops to cover their own ass at the expense of the people
Honestly trust is the big issue. The mainstream establishment has pissed all over the peopleโs trust, because theyโre so use to the people trusting them blindly because whoโs going to prove them wrong.
But with the advent of television & the internet itโs become very easy to prove them wrong. If a corrupt Deputy Marshal showed up to your home and shot your son back in 1850 whoโd ever believe you? Itโs your word against a badge, and people had trust in the authorities. Today all you have to do is point a camera at the corrupt Marshal and bam, instant evidence that can be uploaded to the eyes of millions in a matter of seconds
For the first time in History the people can legitimately hold the establishment accountable for their lies
Because the crazy inaccuracies and lies from the mainstream media have always existed, theyโve just been impossible to prove.
Because that farmer whoโs been misrepresented & Libeled in a big city paper. Who the fuck is going to have heard his side of things. He had no way of speaking out to as large an audience
But today that guy can get on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and speak out
And if enough people care his voice will be heard by more than the 20 people he knows personally
Who knows how many people got censored like Lindsay Shepherd did 90 years ago, but today, all it takes is a social media post getting into the correct hands and all of a sudden boom
Like #MeToo has blown up so much that some extreme feminists are finally giving a voice to Bill Clintonโs accusers. Even CNN employees were retweeting an article that his accusers werenโt just right wing nutjobs.
Social media has given the people an incredible amount of power. 2016 was the first year where a majority of the kids who grew up with social media were eligible to vote and look what happened. The most popular Republican candidate was a complete outsider and the Democrats had to cheat to prevent Bernie, an independent, from winning their primary.
Shit like what happened to Ron Paul in 2012 canโt happen again
Yep. Because everyone I knew in High School wanted Ron Paul, but most of us werenโt 18 until after the primaries ended so we couldnโt vote. He got super railroaded by the media, and smeared as a joke
The Demโs did the exact same thing to Bernie in 2016 on a larger scale that the Republicans did to Ron Paul in 2012, only in 2016 it didnโt work
Because the newest generation got around the media blackout by getting news updates from Facebook, Reddit, twitter, ect
Literally anyone who can platform themselves well enough can run now.
Reactor is proof of that. If you know what youโre doing you can manipulate these social media sites easily
It doesnโt matter if people try to censor you anymore, hell Reddit certainly tried to censor the_donald
Donald Trump is one of the most charismatic personalities out there. Heโs great drumming up attention and getting people to look where he wants them to look
Obama was more eloquent, but yes. Trump is more in your face. Heโs been playing the mainstream media like a fiddle for decades. He knows how they work and how to manipulate them
