physically bypassing the voltage regulator on a GPU without frying it from overvoltage

mostly because i want to see how hard i can push an obsolete GPU

it's a R7 240 and without bypass it currently maxes out around 1.5GHz (stock runs 720mhz)

paperweights are boring

at least in this case i'm experimenting with overclocking techniques

my 1060 absofuckinglutely smashes the r7 240

these aren't overclocks done in the OS

these are done by reprogramming the BIOS

Find bios editor for card series

then you flash it once you feel safe

Miner boards sometimes aim to reduce voltage while overclocking

which is useful for gaming too tbh

this is just experimentation

gtx 1060 cant OC for shit last i checked due to locked bios and a voltage cap programmed into the locked bios

mine will push the core to around +250

i keep the memory around 800 and the power raises by 10%

just a lucky card

but until someone cracks the pascal bios, voltage cant be modified to go high for extreme overclocking

not that i want to overclock a card outside of the lock while its still in warranty

i use afterburner for it

but after a certain percentage, the voltage slider is useless

i think it was 15%

then the card refuses to go any higher

now you can physically bypass the regulator IC on the 1060 too

but it is wayyy to valuable to do that without good reason

I'm at a loss with overclocking ryzen too, but i dont have much interest in that

ryzen is a separate beast from anything before it too

RX 580 and GTX 1060 can work in tandem with certain DX 12 things

which is cool

when RX 580s become obsolete, or the ethereum based currencies crash, ill probably snatch up some 580s

and experiment with making one work with my 1060

main concern with GPU wear tends to be replaceable shit like the capacitors anyways

no voltage OC is +300mhz, 1.3v gets +780mhz, but i keep it at 1.4v because i want to see when itll die since its a cheap card
