The Pershings out matched the Soviet T-34-85
I'll have to say, the German TDs were quite scary
No, but in the perspective of WW2
I'm gonna continue.
German TDs varied a lot
Some were barely produced, Dicker Max and Jagdtiger
Some were mass produced, Stug III/IV and Hetzer
But most of them did their job well
Some of the bigger ones like Jagdtigers and Jagdpanthers faced many of the same problems that their "parent" tanks did
While Stug III/IVs and Hetzers did not since they were built on tankses with generally few problems
There were also prototypes like the Dicker Max that there were only 2 prototypea of
But a Dicker Max **did** see combat
And I believe when the Soviets caught it, it had 50 kills.
Then there were the Ferdinands and Elefants
Which were so bad
That they could catch fire when going up a hill
The weight was just too great
Especially on the Elefant since the Elefant is litteraly only a Ferdinand with extra armor and a machine gun
The big TDs, or generally any big German tankses did bad in the end of the war
The biggest problems were allied fighter-bombers
And their logistical problems
The Hetzer was not a waste of time.
The Hetzer was very cost-effective
TDs dissapeared because of hand held AT weaponry and there not being so many tanks to shoot at.
That as well.
But if another big conflict came into play
And a lot of tanks would be used
The TDs would be right around the corner, being built by every great power
Do you now?
Tell me a conventional way to take out an enemy tank 10 KMs away.
I'll simulate it.
Shot down by enemy ground to air missile.
Continue.
10 KMs away from a tank, and you don't think there will be multiple ground to air missiles and enemy jets on you?
We're talking modern war against a great power
Air to ground missile you say?
Intercepted by a Missile Defense program
I know I am being unrealistic
But I'm talking cost-effectivenes
Since that F-35 costs a lot, doesn't it?
A Warthog would be reasonable
Tanks are actually a bit old fashioned, I'd say
They'll just get taken out by hand held AT
Or any plane
I mean real AT
Not the ones you'll have to flank to use
I think we're on different subjects
I'm talking about the need of tanks
And how it's a bit old fashioned
I know that
I'd say they might soon be
Especially when you look at how much a single tank might cost
I'm not advocating for people to give up
on their tanks
But that they're changing roles
Easier* to kill
They're getting harder to protect
Yes, an Abrams is hard to kill
But it costs a fuck ton for it to be that.
It's not the old "add 30 more milimeters of steel!"
It's become **very** intricate
I know Tech is better
But is it worth it in the long run?
Putting millions into a new defensive measure that'll only defend a tank for another shell
Yes, but in the middle of combat
How much time does it take?
For it to be on full defense yet again
If it takes even 15 seconds, wish goodbye because that's another shell
And making it automatic just increases the price again
Enemy tank being annoying?
Air strike
!rank
Very quick
Very good defense.
But if a tank costs a lot to make
You can't field enough of them to be very effective
I was just talking about prices of tanks
Like, how much does an Abrams cost?
An Abrams as I can find out
Costs millions
A lot of money
How much is that worth in some really good air to ground missiles?
I wouldn't bring an Abrams to close quarters
In the fear of losing it
I'd instead use Humvees
The Abrams could sit on a hill a good amount back and support
Fantastic
Probably a lot
Think about being that one officer
In the Air Force
That had one of his F-22s shot down
Welp, the 678 million dollar air craft got shot down, I guess it's time to eat some lead.
How much does a modern russian jet cost?
I need to know this
And how much for an F-35?
Jesus Christ these are expensive
True
But the sheer cost of some of these vehicles is amazing
Please no
How much does a Standard issue American helmet cost?
