So as far as I know about Venezuela, +40 servicemen revolted, and according to Gvmnt sources they were incarcerated. Don't think this is an ongoing coup, but could be the start of a full blown civil war, as Juan Guaidรณ and the National Assembly called for massive mobilization on the 23th, and most likely will openly declare himself president. If that happens we can expect today's revolt to repeat itself.
Another interesting point, over the last weeks the Gvmnt has tried over and over again to aim at external aggressions that can unite venezuelans on their side, from the territorial dispute with Guyana to a recent issue with Ecuador over allegued racism.
Well, I am Chilean, so oddly enough, not a neighbour. But close ๐
@Grimm0175 it feels different now though
I have been watching at venezuela since the 2002 coup and this time it's taken a huge push in a couple of days
Este Gobierno ya cayรณ (this government has already fallen)
imo, a US intervention would just secure chavism 4.0 to return in a decade, fueled by anti-us sentiments
either stuff needs to happen from Venezuelan Society or Latin American forces
it would, it's already happening, although not as massive and dramatic as in Syria
wow
wasn't aware of that nummber
I suppose this happens when you allow a cult to get into power
it IS a cult
check the BITE model by Stephen Hassan
see how it fits
El Mazo is the 4 hours-long weekly mass
lol
I suppose Thursday will tell
if work schedules are kind I will pay a visit to the local embassy
Yeah, I presume there will be a concentration of people there
Haven't read anything yet though
there was a cabildo on the 19th
What's up with the military men who are said to be at the Colombian Border?
any news on that? I was just watching their declaration
no, it was like an hour ago I think
hmmm
killing Maduro seems to me like a bad move... Who is Vice President right now?
Delcy... damn
well, yeah, you would need to take the whole bunch out
But that usually leads to more fanatism
It really depends on how the state is drawn I suppose
Oh damn, this could turn into a shitshow in a minute
Wha wea?
Nah, we good with him gone
he was a bit of a polarizing factor
Yeah I know, and that's the past
Puppet state?
lol
we got ourselves a full blockade by the US, which nearly led to us being invaded by Argentina in the 78
if you are interested, that was because of the murderer of Orlando Letelier in the 74
so yeah, Pinochet's dictatorship got essentially the same treatment Maduro's dictatorship claims to be getting from the US
Beagle Islands Crisis
Can't tell
I wasn't even a thing back then
If I had been alive then I would have got myself in trouble though
I got some differences with my far more Pinochet-friendly father
I lean slightly to the left than he does
and even he has some differences as well
Not really, I am just full pro democracy and hate every "we shall live forever more" kind of speech
so I recognize Pinochet was a dictattor who commited political crimes that I can't condone
but I also understand Allende was no democrat himself
Most importantly, he was undemocratic
"I am not the president of all chileans" he said, that is essentially subverting the Presidency to your ideas
Anyway, anything new happened in Little Venice this morning? I can't bother to get on twitter and check VTV and Telesur right now
he did
They unearthed his corpse three times to see if he was murdered, all three times they came to the conclusion the shot was made from the front, short distance and by the AK Fidel gave him
So they, like, got really drunk on Liberty?
heh
Why is Black Panther Trending Topic in Venezuela?
well, yeah, they didn't actually drop Fidel from a chopper
Cornershop's here
Oh Chavez was very concearned with that
if there is a heaven
I recall watching his allocutions on his last months
more and more related to religion
both Catholicism and Santerรญa
That is objectivly bad
It's as bad as torturing centers
actually not as bad, but still bad
Ah, Ben
always fun to watch
and only that
Who, Ben?
no
hmmm
@Marker here in South America we usually write centuries in roman numerals, so it's a comon mistake to write them with roman numerals when writing in English
I have been questioned about that a couple of times myself ๐
Yeah
for the most part
You know, I don't mind socialist policies. If you want to provide coverage to the poor and raise taxes that's fine with me
just don't like it when politicians go all Che Guevara about it
My main concearn is when politicians say stuff like "They will never come back to power" and "We are the people", like taking over national and popular identity, somehow alienating every disagreement from the debate
In Latin America we have both sides of the spectrum taking this attitude, but most recently the left through figures like Chavez, Morales and Correa.
No
I don't believe in direct democracy
Republic I say
Societies should be free to seek their fate, but nobody should deny the possibility they turn the other way at some point
So when Hugo Chavez started to call out the oppossition as fascists and saying "They shall never come back" I saw what was wrong with him
Before that, I kinda liked the figure Hugo Chavez represented
but the guy showed himself no different to a school bully
As in, rich and aristocrat?
lol
Juche, although that's the ideology, not sure of the system
Economically capitalist
but politically socialist
So all they joys of capitalism, all the bads of capitalism, absolutely nothing good on the political side
With a political manifestation
like one party rule
so what is it politically?
