What?
Yes, because South American Catholics define dogma.
And everything the pope says is ex cathedra! How wonderfully this fits into your argument.
Okay, whatever @Salvation_Crucifix
The church and the west as a whole are in a bad state. As if I'm blind to that.
@Salvation_Crucifix the difference here is that while heresy and degeneracy are purged in the end in Catholicism, you go off and start a new church. I didn't think this was a point of contention seeing that it is generally accepted practice.
Unless you're one of those Protestants who still believes in only one true church.
@Salvation_Crucifix You kick the guy out in that case.
Didn't Arianism hold the majority in terms of belief at one point? Just because things are bad currently in the church doesn't mean this will last forever.
And there are many passages in the OT which speak to this. God makes reversals.
@Mr. Nessel Judea was freed from Greek rule by diplomacy with the Romans iirc.
@Salvation_Crucifix That's not practice with popes. I don't think it's even possible to depose a pope like that. But the hierarchy itself it holy and ought to be honored. But if the pope tries to command you to do something objectively evil, you are under no obligation to do so.
The Church has survived periods comparable and even worse. Though the people may be imperfect, the Church remains perfect. It may seem clichรฉ to repeat "the gates of Hell shall not prevail," but it applies well in this instance.
Imagine if Christians splintered like Protestants do but from the start. I don't think that a religion like that could survive or even qualify as a single religion for more than 500 years. I bet after a few more generations, Protestantism will continue to drift off in multiple directions and start to lose even the most basic common points of faith. Many sects are already like this.
Also, there is no precedent for splitting off found in the OT. Judaism was always one religion, even if the countryside lapsed into paganism occasionally.
I don't see your point. They have no effect on me or my faith. And the contrast between a trad and a modern Catholic is mostly residual effects of the 60s, meaning it is both quite young and non dogmatic.
If they are heretical, then they can leave or fix the issue. Poor catechesis is a big issue that must be fixed, and most modern Catholics are a product of this. Which is hardly grounds for schism. The issue with the current hierarchy is mainly located in a few liberal areas (the German bishops, some US bishops, &c.), but most priests and Catholics are well intentioned even if they aren't practicing tradition due to unawareness.
I wouldn't put one on, because I know that I'm not like those great men just because of a pfp, but at least it's not softcore cartoon porn.
Though it seems that this is ironic rather than actually made by lefties

I g2g, nice talking y'all
That's certainly not something which a good statesman nor a good man would say.
As if these things aren't true for the Protestants or the Orthodox.
