just joined, legitimate globe believer and in school as a physicist here for serious debate not โ€œyou believe its flat youre an idiotโ€ , i really do want to know what you believe if you are a flat earther

just joined, legitimate globe believer and physicist here for serious debate not โ€œyou believe its flat youre an idiotโ€ , i really do want to know what you believe

2020-01-12 19:14:49 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

im a second year

2020-01-12 19:19:02 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

id like to think there might be something after death, even if we dont retain our conciousness

2020-01-12 19:19:32 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

i mean theres no evidence but its just comforting

2020-01-12 19:21:08 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

i dont believe in any deity or spirituality, its just a little hope that i might be wrong even with the lack of evidence

2020-01-13 00:24:26 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

even though the EM spectrum is "immaterial" (which its not because photons) , the notion of something immaterial effecting something material makes no sense. there is no interaction there

2020-01-13 01:04:13 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

i wouldnt say that photons are fully zero mass, while depending on how you approach it a photon could be considered zero mass if its at rest, but they never are, they have energy and momentum: which means they must have mass

2020-01-13 01:06:45 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]
2020-01-13 01:07:04 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

relativity

2020-01-13 01:07:57 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

total enrgy of the system/particle is equal to the mass of the particle/system times the speed of light squared

2020-01-13 01:08:17 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

only at rest

2020-01-13 01:08:36 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

exactly

2020-01-13 01:08:46 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

they never are thats theoretical

2020-01-13 01:09:33 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

photons always move, the "photons have zero mass" is only when they theoretically are at rest

2020-01-13 01:16:22 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

if the rest mass were non zero

2020-01-13 01:17:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

rest mass being non zero means not massless

2020-01-13 01:17:44 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

and yea its mostly theoretics

2020-01-13 01:18:33 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

you cant test most of the stuff with protons

2020-01-13 01:18:37 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

photons

2020-01-13 01:18:39 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

*

2020-01-13 01:20:00 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yes you can?? @Fran especially geology

2020-01-13 01:20:27 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

cosmology not as much

2020-01-13 01:20:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yes

2020-01-13 01:20:48 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

carbon dating

2020-01-13 01:21:15 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

you dont have to

2020-01-13 01:21:39 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

with time yes

2020-01-13 01:21:52 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yes just not in one life time

2020-01-13 01:22:24 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

one is far more possible

2020-01-13 01:22:45 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

there are many experiments that have taken more than one generation

2020-01-13 01:23:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

well duh, but you can scale it down

2020-01-13 01:24:39 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

carbon dating is just as reliable as a full recreation

2020-01-13 01:24:44 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

btw

2020-01-13 01:25:55 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

ahahaha an advanced race

2020-01-13 01:27:15 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

thats not all that it is, thats just one technique, you can even find out the specific atmosphere that sediment formed in, and what its made of

2020-01-13 01:27:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

can you provide evidence?

2020-01-13 01:28:12 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

saying "you could be wrong" is not a way to dispute a claim

2020-01-13 01:28:55 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

last thursdayism lmao

2020-01-13 01:29:08 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

that doesnt mean you are right

2020-01-13 01:29:31 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no lmao

2020-01-13 01:30:08 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

you obviously have never been around a real scientific community

2020-01-13 01:30:29 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no because you are posing the claim after evidence

2020-01-13 01:31:19 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

that doesnt make you right

2020-01-13 01:31:51 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

prsent new evidence

2020-01-13 01:32:05 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

thats how it works in real science

2020-01-13 01:32:23 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

the way we already have

2020-01-13 01:33:05 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

it has been proved, now disprove it by making a claim, and present evidence to disprove that first claim

2020-01-13 01:33:37 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

last thursdayism is the most absurdly lazy ideology

2020-01-13 01:33:52 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no one said you could???

2020-01-13 01:34:08 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

purpose doesnt matter

2020-01-13 01:36:27 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

again last thursdayism is lazy

2020-01-13 01:37:01 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

it isnt science, its a philosophy, not actual science

2020-01-13 01:38:49 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

science is not philosophy lmao

2020-01-13 01:38:57 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

science is not the why, its the how

2020-01-13 01:39:30 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

scientism oh boy

2020-01-13 01:39:51 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no

2020-01-13 01:40:00 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

obviously

2020-01-13 01:41:29 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

i dont believe there is a single real scientist who says science can explain literally everything

2020-01-13 01:42:18 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no, only the laws and processes the universe abides by

2020-01-13 01:42:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

^

2020-01-13 01:43:13 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

science is not philosophical

2020-01-13 01:43:46 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yes i do

2020-01-13 01:45:46 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

science and the philosophy of science are different @Fran

2020-01-13 01:46:31 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

science is not philosophy because philosophy does not require evidence

2020-01-13 01:47:33 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

used to

2020-01-13 01:47:38 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

for a reason

2020-01-13 01:48:48 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

ok then by your ideas almost everything is philosphy and thats just ridiculous

2020-01-13 01:49:53 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

just because by definition something might be related or connected by processes, does not mean they are considered similar

2020-01-13 01:50:08 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

or parts of one another

2020-01-13 01:50:44 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

philosophy is the study of knowledge and existence

2020-01-13 01:51:58 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no it is the study of the behavior of our physical/natural world

2020-01-13 01:53:00 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

not really everything@Gwen

2020-01-13 01:53:17 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

@Fran no, it is the aquisition of knowledge

2020-01-13 01:54:25 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

to aquire knowledge and to study the actual idea of knowledge are different things

2020-01-13 01:55:32 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yes ive taken a few 2000 lvl political philosophy classes

2020-01-13 01:56:39 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so you are saying that literally learning anything ever is philosophy?

2020-01-13 01:56:53 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no no

2020-01-13 01:57:05 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

acquiring any knowledge at all

2020-01-13 01:57:45 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

which is a form of philosophy innit??

2020-01-13 01:58:05 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so every thing is philosophy

2020-01-13 01:58:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

what about anything not making claims?

2020-01-13 01:59:01 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

but you just acquired the knowledge that you stubbed your toe

2020-01-13 01:59:07 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so by your logic

2020-01-13 01:59:13 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

that is philosphy

2020-01-13 01:59:45 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

but in doing that, you did acquire that knowledge didnt you?

2020-01-13 02:00:00 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

whether you make that claim or not?

2020-01-13 02:00:19 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yea but as a result of that

2020-01-13 02:01:40 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so is experimenting philosophy?

2020-01-13 02:02:24 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

putting to chemicals together for example

2020-01-13 02:02:30 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

two

2020-01-13 02:02:41 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no

2020-01-13 02:02:56 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no

2020-01-13 02:04:36 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so anything that humans consciously do is philosophy ?

2020-01-13 02:05:18 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

whats the difference?

2020-01-13 02:05:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

between a claim and an action conciously made

2020-01-13 02:06:37 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

wait now you are changing your terms

2020-01-13 02:07:33 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so , gravity exists, a logical claim is not philosophy

2020-01-13 02:08:14 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so is, a circle is square

2020-01-13 02:08:25 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

one is just true
