I just ate an entire bag of carrots
I've heard the term gnosticism but never understood it, isn't effectively spirituality, like the new age shit
possibly in some contexts, but this guy was legitimately talking about how the demiurge made this material world and that's why it's flawed, and crying that the orthodoxy suppressed them and tried to get rid of their texts
oh, so he is actually retarded
Yes, but also I pity him. He was raised Catholic, but evidently not taught well enough to stick with it, so he said he was actually drifting into agnosticism before an uncle died and he found out that the uncle had secretly been a gnostic for many years. I guess something in it appealed to him. Like the view of a fallen world because it was administered by a flawed emanation of God somehow made more sense than real Christian theodicy.
I pity the part where he didn't learn the answers to his doubts from a legitimate source
I feel somewhat bad now
I think most of gnosticism today is Japan's fault tbh
like, it's always been around, but Japan's views towards Christian tradition are fascinating
They are very much academically fascinated by it, so all kinds of obscure mysticism leaks into their pop culture
and then you end up with shows like Evangelion, which admittedly only uses Gnosticism as an aesthetic
but then people start copying
and then that stuff bleeds into US and therefore world culture through weeaboos in hollywood
and you end up with shows that edgy retarded teenage girls base their made up personal cults on like Supernatural
and then that mixes into popular discourse as "lost knowledge" when really it's been dismissed for over a thousand years as herresy and nonsense
Yeah. The popularity of "witches" and satanism among edgy girls has to be one of the most irritating things on the internet
That's been a thing since the 60s though, when the new age movement legitimized all the late spiritualists of the 50s
the gnostic streak is fairly new, at least removed from early 20th century spiritualism and its impact on stuff like Wicca
the whole wicca and witch thing is depressing to see, my younger sister who was raised as a Catholic has taken a liking to wicca and "practices" it, it upsets me sometimes to see that she rejects the beauty of God's gifts for heresy
It's really just gross to me tbh
but it's beautiful like an abstract form of poetry proclaiming the greatness of its Creator
not an object worthy of worship itself
Nature has never done good to man, it is cruel and unforgiving because it is imperfect as this earth
God makes the good in it manifest
when it is explained to me by said sister it just sounds like shamanism with a different name
That's basically what it is. It's an amalgam of random paganisms from around the world, with heavy influences by germanic paganism especially
A lot of emphasis on "energy" in the new age sense, be it "magic" or "positivity" or whatever the preferred buzzword is, along with miraculous acts either fabricated or "that come at a cost" (demonic).
I've yet to meet a witch actually capable, but hell Pharoh's sorcerers performed magic against Moses (weak though it was), I don't put anything past the evil of this world acting outside the light of Christ...
My hope is that one day we're able to bring her back to God but idk if it'll happen cause it's gotten it's claws around her
prayer my dude, and don't ever stop having conversations with her
try to find the holes in it; the devil is a liar, and a good one, but not a perfect one
let her explain why she believes, give her a chance to get to the heart of it, then in love and gentleness bring up the failure it is in Christ. Polemics don't much help the lost, and while some vessels are made for destruction, Christ does not abandon the sheep of his fold.
It just takes a gentle hand to guide them back sometimes

For fuck's sake.
Big hmm
Hang on, hang on.
Is he a comedian turned politician?
Or is this some sort of show they're advertising?
