Let's see what happens in South Carolina. Buttplug and Sanders aren'ttoo popular down there

but it could well be Buttplug vs Bernie

You'd think after 2016 the DNC would have learnt the lesson and wouldn't allow an independent to run in their primary (and that's a lesson about AOC too). Why the hell won't they wake up to this very basic rule of running a party, I do not understand

@SilverKestral dunno, I'm going to try and find out but that tends to be the last thing they report

2020-02-12 02:46:10 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@SilverKestral 12:08 p.m.: New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner is predicting turnout of some 420,000 voters (292,000 Democratic ballots and 128,000 Republican ballots.) If he's right, that would be the most votes cast in a presidential primary featuring an incumbent president.

2020-02-12 02:46:19 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

However, on a phone call with reporters Monday, New Hampshire Democratic chair Ray Buckley said, "I don't think anyone is predicting anywhere near the 2008 turnout. I think we will have a terrific turnout. It will certainly be higher than any other state in the entire nominating process. But there's no indication we'll match or be near 2008."

To some extent, turnout is catching up to the 2008 Democratic primary. Looking at just the municipalities that have reported 100 percent of the vote, turnout is running 4 percent behind 2008, but 10 percent ahead of the turnout in the same places in the 2016 primary.

GEOFFREY SKELLEY10:03 PM
You know, earlier tonight turnout looked to be lagging a bit behind the 2008 Democratic primary and slightly ahead of the 2016 race. But since then, itโ€™s looking more likely itโ€™ll match 2008. Looking at places that are 100 percent reporting and comparing their turnout in 2008 and 2016, the 2020 Democratic primary is now only 1 percent behind turnout in 2008 and is about 14 percent ahead of the 2016 primary.

Among voters who prioritize beating Trump (about 6 in 10 voters said they preferred a candidate who could beat Trump over someone who agrees with them on the issues), exit polls have Klobuchar in third behind Buttigieg and Sanders, according to The Washington Post. Sanders leads among voters who prioritize issues, with 39 percent.

Turnout tonight in some of New Hampshireโ€™s biggest cities has handily surpassed 2016 numbers but fallen a little bit short of 2008 numbers. Looking at Manchester, Concord and Rochester, for example (where all of the vote is in), turnout this year is up 14.3 percent compared to 2016 and down 2.3 percent from 2008.

But, in the stateโ€™s five smallest cities (again, where all the vote is in), turnout this year was a lot less enthusiastic โ€” up only 1.6 percent from 2016 and down 14.3 percent from 2008. More populated areas seeing a surge in turnout is consistent with what happened in Iowa last week and could speak to the continuing urbanization of the Democratic base.

I think Klobuchar is going to get more attention and scrutiny over the next 10 days. I wonder if the stories about her being mean to her staff register with voters. I doubt it. She comes off well in public. I met her on the Hill and she always was super-friendly with us reporters. When I heard from several people that she was one of the harder members to work for, I was shocked. She doesnโ€™t project that. What I think will be more interesting is that she is not one of the more liberal members in the Senate. I would assume she has cast some votes for Trump nominees that will be easy fodder for her rivals.
