the shit going on with the british parliament is reinforcing my belief that the parliamentary system of having the legislature elect/appoint the head of government is shit.
Andora has co-executives
But all I'm really talking about is that the head of government in a democratic system should either be elected by popular vote or indirectly elected like in the US, through a body that doesn't serve some other major governmental/political function
having the legislature appoint the executive is a shitshow waiting to happen, IMO
I think it tips the balance of power too heavily towards the legislature
A lot of the rhetoric about the proroguing is basically "Boris is defying the sovereignty of the parliament" or something to that effect
which is obviously a terrible take
sort of
legislative and executive power are considered seperate things for a reason
Giving the legislature so much control over the latter isn't a good idea
any more than it would be to give the executive tons of power over the legislature
that said, regarding the multiple executive things
actually nevermind
eh, whatever
I'd been thinking about a concept for a constitutional monarchy that does a sort of co-executive thing with the monarch and an elected president
not really a serious "I think this is a thing that should be implemented" kind of idea, though
but it does seem like there'd be a couple advantages
the power would be shared more equally
I know the queen does have power
but it's not a lot
that said, the idea was more based around the american system, so I don't know how well certain things translate
But that's a point though
The UK could really use a written constitution IMO
Far as I'm aware, the "unwritten constitution" is basically just centuries of legal precedent, which doesn't sound like a great thing to hang your entire government on.
Reminder that California is too big and should be broken up
Honestly, most of the state should just declare independance from the State of California
There's legal precedent for it.
Kentucky got started that way, IIRC
Part of it used to belong to virginia
or something
I could be misremembering
I think west virginia didn't exist yet
maybe I'm wrong
yeah, It was part of Virginia
ah damn, nevermind
Kentucky got permission from virginia
San Diego's okay
But LA to SF should be razed and salted
IDK though, the way things are worded, states need to give permission if a section of it wants to become a new state
But what if that section just decides to become a territory?
or someshit like that
I don't think there's anything in the constitution about that
to make a new state, sure
yeah
big states were a mistake
beat me too it
IDK about montana
but New York City alone would be like the 12th or 13th most populated state by itself
eh
Montana is one of the least populated states
what
oh
tbh still a response to alucard
Alternate proposal: nuke china
kek
free tibet, make the turkic muslim bit it's own country, give the mongolian part of China back to Mongolia, then give Manchuria to Japan because fuck China
probably
I'd suggest putting Hong Kong in charge of the rest of China but their government are half responsible for the current shitstorm
didn't know that
Well shit then
Just put hong kong in charge of the rest of China
they'd run it better than the CCP
I know about Taiwan
So we can all agree that if the EU decides to go full empire mode, they'd have no right to complain if the US decided to take over the western hemisphere, yes?
lol
more like the 5th time, really
I don't really know what the fuck the EU thinks it's going to do if it unifies with world power ambitions
In between Russia, who doesn't like it, and the USA, who sure as shit won't like it by that point
eh
Jefferson though
Germany should be dismanteled, though
they've basically proved at this point that they can't be trusted to act as a united country
honestly, that too
But they're cunts, so fuck'em
They're a rival, they don't really have the right to get butthurt over that kind of shit
They'd do the same if the situation was reversed
They should be trying to align with us against China
It definitely wouldn't be good
Frankly, I think the most likely outcome, if the EU somehow unified without collapsing in a burning fucking train wreck, is the EU aligning with China for lack of any other option, and the US and Russia aligning to each other as a result
All for walls, not so much for isolationism
usually hasn't worked out, historically
no like
It usually fucks over the country practicing it
and American prosperity's biggest kickstart was as a result of WW2
there is if you don't want the oil market, and by extension the global economy, to get fucked up
That's not how the economy works
If they stop producing oil, the price of oil will go up
Doesn't matter that we produce our own
People outside the country will want to buy it
So the price will go up
Our market isn't a closed system.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be first in line advocating that we cut ties with the Saudi's when oil isn't the main source of energy anymore
You can't put coal in a car
last I checked
Again, it doesn't matter that we produce enough for ourselves
If supply drops elsewhere, the companies will sell more outside
I'm all for helping latin america sort its shit so that it stops sending all its problems to us
helping them develop will cut down on the number of people coming here
Everything else is more shit than the NCR
as far as the west coast is concerned, anyway
